In An Exercise Slump, Relationship Rut or Career Funk? Here’s What You Can Do Today
We all feel stuck from time to time, especially those of us who choose to focus on growing personally or professionally.
Growing our mindsets, businesses, families or dreams is no small feat and sometimes we feel like nothing’s happening, we’re not moving forward and the progress we’re making is too slow.
If you resonate at all with feeling stuck, then know this: the feeling of being stuck is totally normal. And here’s the truth: Everything is energy. You are more than just a physical body – you’re a spiritual being having a human experience.
The results you see in your life are caused by what you think, and results never lie.
If you want to create new results, you must bring new energy to your life each and every day because this will determine the action that you take.
In other words, changing your results involves changing your energy.
How to Get Unstuck Mentally
The following steps will help you change your energy so you can get mentally unstuck, free your mind, become more productive and move toward your dreams and goals faster than ever!
Step #1: Declutter
It may come as a surprise, but when you’re feeling stuck, decluttering and reorganizing any area in your home, office or car can be very effective at helping you to clear the energy around you.
One of the best parts about decluttering is that you don’t have to tackle a large area – this strategy works even if you only focus on the glove compartment in your car, a drawer in your kitchen or nightstand, or one shelf on your bookcase.
When you take the time to clean up the physical space around you, you send a signal to your subconscious brain that you desire more flow in your life.
And according to Marie Kondo, author of the bestselling book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, and founder of the KonMari Method, when you tidy up your space, you transform your life.
Step #2: Make a list of three people you’ve helped in the past several weeks
Whether you’ve lent a hand to a family member, friend, coworker or client, I encourage you to write down three names of specific people that you’ve helped recently.
Next to their names, write down exactly what you did to help them and the value that your support brought to their lives.
When you finish, take a moment to read what you wrote a few times. Think carefully about what you did and acknowledge that you helped these people.
Remember, you’re a shaker, a mover and a difference maker. No matter where you are in your career or how far along you’ve come to fulfill your own dreams, the work you’re already doing in the world has the power to move positive energy into your life and the lives of those around you.
It can be very easy for those of us who have decided that we want to create an impact in the lives of other people to overlook the good work that we’re doing in the world.
However, if you don’t remember all the people that you’ve helped, then you’ll be more likely to stay where you are, instead of making strides toward what you ultimately desire.
Look at it this way: When you stop to see the results you’ve created, your sense of aliveness grows… and this aliveness ripples out into the world around you. Others notice it, and they feel inspired to pursue their own personal growth, self-development, goals and dreams.
Making a point to regularly remember and write the names of those you’ve helped will build your confidence and guide you forward toward bigger and better things, and ultimately transform the world.
Step #3: Clean up your finances
When you feel stuck, one of the best things to do is to clean up any unresolved debts and to organize your finances, both personal and professional.
You may owe someone $20, or maybe someone owes you $20. And how about that bill you know is due by the end of the week that’s been on your mind?
There’s only one thing to do: Pop your check in the mail or pay your bills online.
If you have a money issue that you just can’t settle today or this week, then I recommend writing down the name of the person or company owed on a Post-It note and the exact date that you would love to have it paid.
This is called a hard deck goal. Make sure that what you write down is realistic and hang it somewhere where you can see it every day. Messy finances have the power to keep you stuck and clean finances have the power to set you free and help you become more abundant.
Step #4: Resist the temptation to give up
Resist the temptation to throw your hands up or to tell yourself that you’re already doing everything. Again, results never lie.
If your results aren’t what you want them to be, the fact is that you’re not doing everything.
There’s always another step you can take to move in the direction of your dreams.
You don’t have a resource problem; you have an awareness problem. There’s no lack of resources in your life and there are always steps that you can take – even brand new steps.
The problem is that you don’t know what those steps are, and giving up can be tempting, especially if you’ve seen success previously.
But here’s the bottom line: Everything is energy and the code to crack isn’t out there somewhere.
The code is within you. Your work is an inside job, which brings me to step #5.
Step #5: Hit the refresh button
Many years ago, we had about 30 people over at our home for Thanksgiving dinner and I was elected to say Grace.
As I was finishing up, I added that I was so
“grateful for the power of this day, that yesterday is history, and tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, and that’s why we call it the present.”
My daughter, who was about seven years old at the time, said,
“Dad, you got that from Kung Fu Panda!”
She was right. I had swiped this deceptively simple – but very deep nonetheless – teaching from Kung Fu Panda (we had watched it that morning).
The point here is, whether you’re feeling stuck in a relationship, workout regimen or diet, or in your career, remember that you can always hit the refresh button and come back to the present moment.
When you pause to refresh your mindset, you create new energy by respecting, as Kung Fu Panda calls it, the gift that is today.
A 7-day experiment for getting mentally unstuck
I challenge YOU!
I believe the quality of the lives we lead is equivalent to the quality of questions we ask.
For the next seven days, I challenge you to carve out some quiet time for yourself each morning for self reflection.
As part of this reflection time, you can write the answers to the following questions in order to set your intention for the day.
To create greater success today…
- What can I do MORE of?
- What can I do LESS of?
- What can I START doing that I’m not already doing?
- What can I STOP doing that I’m currently doing that isn’t working?
These four questions have the power to move new energy into your life and help you deeply connect to your intuition.
You see, routine lulls the brain to sleep and creates stagnant energy. If the results aren’t there, something needs to change.
Even though you may have had success last month, it doesn’t mean that the same system you used will work this month.
So if you find that you’re not seeing the results you’d love, use these four questions to figure out if you can either add or eliminate a step.
By asking yourself these four questions for seven days, you’ll start to move new energy much faster than before, and ultimately, experience results with greater speed and ease.
Let’s recap the 5 steps to getting mentally unstuck…
Whenever you find yourself in an exercise slump, relationship rut or career funk, take some time out to move new energy into your life by following these 5 steps:
- Declutter
- Make a list of three people you’ve helped in the past several weeks
- Clean up your finances
- Resist the temptation to give up
- Hit the refresh button
In addition, ask yourself these 4 powerful questions:
- To create greater success today, what can I do MORE of?
- What can I do LESS of?
- What can I START doing that I’m not already doing?
- What can I STOP doing that I’m currently doing that isn’t working?
One last thing:
Change occurs the moment you decide to move new energy into your life.
Remember, you are far more powerful than any circumstance, situation or condition you will ever find yourself in.
Stagnation is only temporary if you take it upon yourself to make changes for the better.
And now, here’s a free gift to help you improve productivity even more…
