Learn how to put yourself out there and leverage social media marketing as a coach… without feelings of anxiety!
There are a lot of reasons social media is key to growing your coaching business. It can help you increase your visibility, reach potential clients, and create engaging, helpful content.
But, the biggest obstacle most coaches face when it comes to mastering social media strategies for their business is…
Their own fear and anxiety!
If you struggle with social media anxiety, you might tell yourself things like:
- People don’t care about what I have to say.
- I don’t know what to post- when I try, my mind goes blank.
- What if people judge me? Will they think I’m annoying when I post, leave negative comments, or dislike my content?
- I can’t compete with the coaches who have huge followings and viral videos.
- There are so many people saying the same things. I don’t have anything unique to offer anyway.
Despite the very common fears it can trigger, social media is the best way to gain visibility and grow your coaching business. So, how do you overcome your fears and expand your social influence as a coach?
5 Powerful Strategies to Help You Post on Social Media without Feeling Anxious
Strategy #1: Release Comparison
Social media makes it so easy to compare yourself to other coaches who seem more successful. Maybe they brag about their income, get more likes or comments, or have a bigger following.
But, the comparison habit is fueled by fear! We only feel the need to compare ourselves to others when we are afraid we aren’t good enough.
Consider this:
As a coach, you have been called to help the people who need you. YOU.
Not the other coaches on social media… You.
When you find yourself falling into the trap of comparing yourself to others, remind yourself of your WHY.
- Why did you become a coach?
- Who do you want to help?
- What kind of impact do you want to make on the world?
Then, claim this simple, but powerful truth: No comparison you make is bigger than your purpose.
You have been given this moment and these opportunities to make the impact you’re meant to make in the way only you are meant to make it. The way other people are fulfilling their call has no bearing on how you fulfill yours.
Strategy #2: Find Your Signature Story
One of the most powerful tools you have for building relationships on social media is your signature story.
Using your personal stories of transformation is what helps set you apart from all the other coaches online. It is what will help your ideal clients build know-like-trust with you. And it will enable them to see their own potential in your transformation, helping them know you’ve been where they are.
And the best part?
No one knows your signature story like you do. No other coach or social media influencer has lived your life. You are the natural expert when it comes to your experience!
So if you’re ever unsure what to share on social media, fall back on your own stories of transformation.
Let your own experiences help you identify moments of inspiration, information, and insight you can share with your audience.

Strategy #3: Choose Quality Over Quantity
There are countless social media platforms you could choose to use for your coaching business. How do you know which to choose? Or when and how often to post?
Many coaches struggle with social media for this simple reason: They’re trying to do too much at once.
Instead, choose one or two social media platforms based on these criteria:
- Where is your ideal client spending their time when they’re online?
- What platform can you commit to being consistent in using?
Once you choose the platform(s) that will work best for you, choose a posting schedule you can maintain. Don’t sacrifice the quality of your content for posting more often.
Then, consider pairing your posting schedule with another part of your routine. This could look like:
- Creating one instagram post each morning while you have your coffee
- Recording a short Tiktok video from your (parked) car each time you run to the store
- Recording 3 Youtube videos on your computer each Saturday and scheduling them to post automatically throughout the week
- Writing one Tweet or Facebook post on your lunch breaks from Monday – Friday
Approaching social media with a “quality first” mindset and committing to an attainable, consistent schedule will help you see better results over time.
Quality content will help you build an audience of truly committed followers. While it may be smaller than some others, it will also likely be more engaged and aligned.
Strategy #4: Reframe Negative Comments
When I was starting my coaching business, I avoided posting videos to social media for a long time. Honestly, I was afraid of the negative comments and judgment I might receive.
But when I took the time to look at other social media accounts, I realized something that surprised me.
The accounts who seemed to be reaching more people and making a big impact had both positive and negative comments…
But the accounts who were doing so-so only had positive comments on their content!
Think of it like this…
Those who shine a big light cast a big shadow.
So instead of thinking about negative comments as a thing to fear and avoid…
Consider them a sign of the impact you’re making and the people you’re reaching!
Strategy #5: Set Boundaries
True success with social media as a coach means understanding that social media is only a tool.
A study by Ophir, Nass, and Wagner showed that heavy users of social media are more susceptible to distraction…
And for coaches using social media as a primary outlet for marketing their businesses, distraction can be a common pitfall!
Build social media into your marketing plan, but be clear about how and when you will use it.
A balanced relationship with social media might mean you:
- Avoid looking engaging with social media outside of business hours
- Schedule time to respond to comments and messages and interact with your audience
- Use a scheduling tool like Hootsuite or Buffer to automatically post new content
- Delete, block, or report inappropriate or unconstructive comments and messages without guilt
- Hire support to help you manage your professional social media presence
- Be mindful of balancing the time and energy you spend on social media with other, real-life activities that support and grow your business
