Lauren Brollier Newton
Well, welcome back to the Abundant Coach, your host, your guide Lauren Brilliant Newton here, and it’s a thrill to get to support you in either starting your coaching business, growing your coaching business, becoming certified. And we at Brave Thinking Institute are just super, super happy to have you. So our topic today why consistency is key to building a successful personal brand.
00;00;56;08 – 00;01;18;13
Lauren Brollier Newton
I have that can seem like we’re going to talk really about the logistics of building brand awareness, but really we’re going to do a deep spiritual dive here, as we always do. And I like to start with a quote from Tony Robbins. He says, consistency is what transforms average into excellence. And I have seen that again and again and again throughout my career, my time in this industry.
00;01;18;14 – 00;01;36;24
Lauren Brollier Newton
This is what we watch at the institute. The clients who get super successful are super consistent. This is going to be very, very important for your brand, but also for your life. Here’s the deal. When I say consistency, I’m not saying that you never get to change your mind or change programs or add something or take something away.
00;01;36;24 – 00;02;01;09
Lauren Brollier Newton
Like that is not by any means what we mean with with consistency. If you’re following spirit, there’s going to be all sorts of things that change and grow and emerge and develop over time. But consistency is more about the way that you’re showing up for yourself and this business. Let me start with a story. When I was teaching elementary school, I was in my teacher credential program.
00;02;01;11 – 00;02;26;02
Lauren Brollier Newton
And this stands out to me very, very strongly that, one of our professors said that you might be you as a teacher might be the only consistent person that that child has in their life. You might be U.S., their teacher might be the only consistent, stable person that they have in their lives. At first that was a little bit unbelievable to me.
00;02;26;02 – 00;02;53;26
Lauren Brollier Newton
Like, I wasn’t a sheltered child by any means, but my parents were consistent, like they came home every night, so to speak, you know? And so this idea that some of these little, little guys that I, as their teacher would be the only consistent person that they knew, was like somewhat surprising, you know, and, and sad. And I would always think to myself and, and when the professor was saying consistent, she meant you show up and it would be very important for you.
00;02;53;26 – 00;03;16;02
Lauren Brollier Newton
This professor said to be consistent in your mood as well. And that always stuck with me like I might I might be the only person that is showing up in their life every, every day. And showing up when I say I’m going to and all that, but also that it was important for me to be consistent in my mood, my positions on things and how important that consistency was for their lives.
00;03;16;02 – 00;03;39;16
Lauren Brollier Newton
Because y energy, love, structure, energy requires structure to move effectively and efficiently. And that’s true in human birth all the way around. We are energy beings, and so moving our energy effectively and efficiently is really key. So what does that have to do with you coach and you showing up consistently in your business to build that successful personal brand?
00;03;39;16 – 00;04;02;14
Lauren Brollier Newton
Well, the personal brand isn’t just what the client see, it’s what you see. If you listen to the John Azaro episodes of this podcast, you heard us talk about the difference between interest and commitment. You could be interested in a lot of things, but commitment is different than interest. Interest is like, oh yeah, I might watch that documentary on such and such, or maybe I’ll build my coaching business commitment as I’m showing up every day for it.
00;04;02;17 – 00;04;23;03
Lauren Brollier Newton
Now, let’s be very clear. I am not saying you don’t take vacations. I am not saying that when you know the time to end work for the day comes around, that you still have to somehow be thinking about it. Please do not conflict. I know it gets so easy for us to conflate things. The consistency comes from the way that you think about your business and then the way you do.
00;04;23;03 – 00;04;45;09
Lauren Brollier Newton
Show up when you’re showing up for clients or online or whatever the deal is, you’re either a professional coach or you’re not. And I don’t mean that. Again, I’m not saying if you’re not full time, you’re not a professional coach. None of that is what I’m saying. What I’m saying is the way in which you think about your business in your mind, and the way you present yourself to the world, is going to show your level of consistency.
00;04;45;12 – 00;05;12;22
Lauren Brollier Newton
So I used to give the example when I was running my own coaching business, that I show up for my business when I’m out on a walk, I might be thinking about, you know, how I’m using the tools that I teach in my own life or how I’m growing the brand, or it’s like, you can’t, in my opinion, your brand as a coach, as you so who you are, being, who you are, showing up as, what you’re thinking about, that all is going to show the consistency to yourself.
00;05;12;24 – 00;05;48;14
Lauren Brollier Newton
And if you’re doing this internal, maybe I am, maybe I’m not. Get committed, get committed. Let’s talk about showing up outward facing in your brand. Showing up outward facing is posting consistently, is doing workshops consistently. Or if you’re online coach doing webinars, podcast episodes, whatever it is. If you if you have an email list, it’s not I email here and then months go by and then I email there your brand people are looking at you to see that you’re professional, even if they’re not thinking of that consciously.
00;05;48;14 – 00;06;10;16
Lauren Brollier Newton
They are asking yourself, am I going to a professional person here? And when we sort of show up half ass or we’re not consistent, it’s a signal to not only ourselves, but all of those who were corresponding with real. Again, this doesn’t mean you should feel bad if you haven’t been consistent up until now. You can start. You can start today.
00;06;10;16 – 00;06;35;01
Lauren Brollier Newton
That’s the great news about this. You can always change this. And it also doesn’t mean that you can’t take giant breaks and vacations and things like that from your business and still show up consistently, because right now we’ve got AI, we’ve got scheduling software, we’ve got everything that can assist you in making it consistent. You could spend one day creating consistency in your business, and then just schedule it all and take the other 29 days of the month off.
00;06;35;08 – 00;07;02;11
Lauren Brollier Newton
Like, there is no reason in this day and age that if this is something you’re committed to, if this is something you’re passionate about, that it can’t be super easy for you. It can be so easy for you. I was working on we have something here at the institute called Transformational Coach of the Year Award, and our coaches can apply and nominate themselves to receive the Transformational Coach of the year award, which is based on how much you impacted your client’s lives.
00;07;02;14 – 00;07;22;11
Lauren Brollier Newton
How much did they did you help them completely transform? And so coaches submit stories. So I was creating the campaign to get our coaches to submit their stories yesterday. And what did I do to support me? I could have sat there staring at a blank page for hours and hours like, oh, what do I want to write? And this and that.
00;07;22;13 – 00;07;39;10
Lauren Brollier Newton
And instead I just told the story to I. I’m like, hey, ChatGPT, we’ve got a word. Skylark coming up. We give out this award every year. Here’s all the details of it. Here’s what I want you to know about it. Can you help me write an eight email campaign to encourage our coaches to really celebrate themselves and share their stories?
00;07;39;12 – 00;08;02;06
Lauren Brollier Newton
Then it was probably 70% good. I still had to go in there and edit it, but then I wasn’t just sitting there on a blank slate. So I’m saying this to say there’s really no reason in this day and age that you cannot show up consistently in ways that you want to show up, because you’ve got all these tools and resources in front of you to help you do exactly that.
00;08;02;09 – 00;08;24;20
Lauren Brollier Newton
So I would recommend to be consistent with your posting and with your email list, and with the ways that you’re showing up, and people really depend on that. Like so. I’ll give you another example. This we host this podcast twice a week. Brave Thinking Institute hosts this podcast, and we release a Monday episode and which is a solo episode with just me talking.
00;08;24;22 – 00;08;48;01
Lauren Brollier Newton
And then there is an interview episode that rereleased on Thursdays. And that’s what we’re doing for this season, season one of the Abundance Coach podcast. And so we do that now. That doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Like there’s some days where, you know, we usually posted at 5 a.m. Pacific time, and there’s been days where it’s like, oh, we’re scrambling and it gets posted at 7 a.m. and it’s not perfect, but we release twice a week and we deliver on that promise.
00;08;48;01 – 00;09;10;13
Lauren Brollier Newton
You know, 99.8% of the time. No one’s perfect. We’re not asking for perfection. And consistency. But here’s why that helps the listener and here’s why that helps us. The listener can expect that they’re on Monday and Thursday is going to listen to the Abundant Coach podcast. When they listen and we deliver for them, and they know when to look and where to look, and it creates and establishes even more trust.
00;09;10;15 – 00;09;33;04
Lauren Brollier Newton
It helps us as an institute because it helps establish that we’re there for you and we’re going to give you great content. We’re gonna give it to you every Monday and Thursday, and we deliver what we promise. And so all sides are benefiting from that consistency and that structure. You can do that too. Now you don’t have to release a podcast twice a week, but you can do your content, schedule it and be ready.
00;09;33;07 – 00;10;00;10
Lauren Brollier Newton
Now, if you’re not someone that’s at that stage of your business, if you’re in your certification or you’re thinking about getting certified with us, there’s ways that you can build a consistent brand right now. If you’re getting certified, for example, whether it’s with us or somewhere else, you can show up on every call with your camera on as the positive person, because those relationships with those people in your certification class can extend for years, and you will always be known as the person who always showed up.
00;10;00;12 – 00;10;19;00
Lauren Brollier Newton
If you’re not yet getting in certification, but you’re, you know, you want to be certified with us or somewhere else, you can start showing up to work in a specific way at the job that you’re at now. Who would you want to be seen as as a coach show up like that right now? Like we’re always building our own personal brand.
00;10;19;02 – 00;10;33;03
Lauren Brollier Newton
And so, there’s always a way to show up consistently. I was showing up as a teacher consistently. I just decided, man, if I’m one of the only stable people in these kids lives, I’m going to show up even keeled. I’m not going to let them see the mood. I’m not going to let them know things are going on.
00;10;33;03 – 00;10;52;00
Lauren Brollier Newton
In my personal life, I was teaching school when my husband was living a double life, and he laughed and all that stuff. I showed up consistently. I didn’t let them see it. All of us are building a personal brand all the time, and there’s ways that you can do it right now. But if you’re passionate about coaching, if you’re passionate about this work, I want it to feel easy for you.
00;10;52;00 – 00;11;11;28
Lauren Brollier Newton
Let that passion and that fire that burns within you be the thing that gives you the fuel to do this. All right. The other thing that I’m going to suggest is that your message is consistent. I have a very, very good friend. I’ve interviewed her on this podcast. I’m not going to mention her name here because I didn’t talk to her about mentioning it before this.
00;11;11;28 – 00;11;33;08
Lauren Brollier Newton
I have a very, very good friend and she has done a lot of different things in her career. She has been a mindset mentor. She’s been involved in network marketing companies. She’s been a sales mentor. I admire her so much because she’s done, I actually I she won’t care. She’ll love that. I share her name, Stacy Hall, you might have heard her on this interview.
00;11;33;10 – 00;11;55;28
Lauren Brollier Newton
She has, developed a brand in which it doesn’t matter if she’s talking about sales or mindset or one of the products for the networking marketing company that she represents. She shows up fully and authentically as Stacy, no matter what subject she’s talking about. And even though she’s got a lot of different things that she does, I never feel confused by her brand because she shows up consistently.
00;11;55;28 – 00;12;16;23
Lauren Brollier Newton
She shows up online. She always brings, certain topics into whatever topic that she’s talking about. She has a very consistent way about the way that she does her messaging. So as the consumer, she has a lot of different things. And anybody else you you might go, like, are you a sales coach? Are you a mindset coach? Are you a product representative?
00;12;16;23 – 00;12;43;00
Lauren Brollier Newton
Like what do you do but not Stacy? Because Stacy is so freakin consistent in the way that she shows up online and how clear, whatever it is that she’s talking about that day comes through. And I just know. I just know as the consumer who’s someone who’s worked with Stacy and gotten to call her a friend and bought her products and programs and all sorts of things, I know that whatever she’s doing, she’s going to give me 110%.
00;12;43;02 – 00;12;57;25
Lauren Brollier Newton
And her message is so consistent that when she shows up, I know what she’s talking about that day, and I know if I want to be in or out, and there’s not a lot of people who represent all sorts of different things that can say that. And so I feel like we do a great job of that at Brave Thinking Institute, too.
00;12;58;01 – 00;13;16;29
Lauren Brollier Newton
It’s like we got a lot of things. We have a coach certification, we’ve got life and transformation programs. But if you look at the total overall brand feel, you can feel it. It’s heart centered, it’s spiritual, you can feel it in every product that we do. So I’m sharing this to say it doesn’t mean that like Stacy Hall, you won’t represent different products and topics and things like that.
00;13;16;29 – 00;13;35;23
Lauren Brollier Newton
That’s not what I’m saying about when I’m saying your message is consistent. What I’m saying is the way in which you show up. I was looking back in my iPhone today. You ever like, just I have probably like 10,000 notes in my iPhone. And I was scrolling back and I’m like, when is the earliest note? I was like, do I need to delete?
00;13;35;28 – 00;14;00;22
Lauren Brollier Newton
Are these notes taking up space in my phone here? I’m opening it right now. The oldest note in my phone goes back to let me see August of 2016. So almost ten years, right? Nine years. And I happened to come across something about my branding for myself from when I very first became a coach. This is like February 2018 is before I’m even certified.
00;14;00;25 – 00;14;18;19
Lauren Brollier Newton
And I wrote down the words grace, grit and spirit. And I thought about that today and I’m like, this is so perfect for this podcast topic because I think if you ask somebody about me today and you would say, did these words describe Lauren, they’d be like, yeah, that. I mean, I think you guys would say that describes it.
00;14;18;19 – 00;14;38;26
Lauren Brollier Newton
Grace, spirit, grit. Yeah. Hell yeah. Perseverance. Spirit. But I try to do it in a in an uplifting and graceful manner. I’m like, yeah, that’s interesting. I wrote that before I even knew myself as a coach, and yet I do. I still feel that’s true today. Yes. And that’s what I’m talking about when I’m talking about your messaging being consistent.
00;14;38;26 – 00;15;08;07
Lauren Brollier Newton
It’s like, who are you? Who are you? Who do you want to be? And as long as that’s present, then you’re good. You’re golden. In terms of consistent messaging consistency. I looked up the dictionary definition, and here’s the part I wanted to pull out for all of us today a standing together as the parts of a system, and then agreement or harmony in all parts of a complex thing.
00;15;08;10 – 00;15;24;24
Lauren Brollier Newton
So if you’re looking at Stacy’s business, you’re looking at Brave Thinking Institute, you’re looking at Lauren, whatever you’re looking at, if you’re consistent, I would say a coaching business is complex. You got marketing, you got enrollment, you got all sorts of things you’re doing. Or you might be someone like Stacy who has all sorts of things you’re passionate about.
00;15;24;24 – 00;15;48;04
Lauren Brollier Newton
Represent Brave Thinking Institute. We’ve got life and transformation. We’ve got coach certification. We’ve got the love and relationship division. We’ve got the business and leadership division. We got all sorts of things going on here. And yet the spirit of all those messages is consistent. And so you think about a complex thing. There’s a lot of things going on, but all of the parts are in agreement or harmony.
00;15;48;06 – 00;16;03;25
Lauren Brollier Newton
That’s what we want. We want as a coach in terms of our consistency, is when I look at you, when I look at your Facebook posts, when I see you in a networking meeting, am I mystified as to who the heck is this or what are they talking about? Nothing makes any sense and nothing seems like it fits together.
00;16;03;28 – 00;16;29;10
Lauren Brollier Newton
Or is there a great great spirit undertone? Or here at the Institute, you know, we empower people to create and live a life they love. That is our purpose. And you see it in everything that we do. In Stacy’s case, she shows up as direct, clear, on topic and fully in on everything she does. So as you’re looking at your own self, who do you want to be in show up as?
00;16;29;13 – 00;16;50;06
Lauren Brollier Newton
And then it’s this is why it’s important to have principles like at the institute, we have a purpose. We have a vision, we have a mission, and we have our core values. And the reason we’re so on those, we say them in every meeting we’re in, we repeat them, is because we want to make sure that the decisions we’re making and how we are showing up are in alignment with the purpose, the mission, the vision and the values.
00;16;50;09 – 00;17;16;28
Lauren Brollier Newton
So for you, if you decided on grace, grit and spirit, or if you decided on loving and always bring people back to their greatest selves, or if you decided I had follow another coach online. Her name is Sarah Dan. I absolutely love her and she’s unapologetic about who she is. I would call her unapologetic and a badass businesswoman when I think about her, that’s exactly how I think of her unapologetic, business building, badass.
00;17;17;01 – 00;17;41;11
Lauren Brollier Newton
And her brand may or may not be for everybody, but but I know if I go to Sarah’s page, I am going to see her being unapologetic and a business badass and wonderful and brilliant. And so when whatever you’re going to be, think about that and be consistent with that in your brand, where you are, again, it’s not the program, it’s not the thing that you’re offering necessarily.
00;17;41;11 – 00;18;08;19
Lauren Brollier Newton
It’s the beingness of you. And I want you to think about that too. I would invite you to think about that even when you’re posting on your personal page. If you’ve got clients on there and you’re representing yourself as someone who lives what you teach and your life coach, and you get on Facebook and you go off on something with anger and resentment and this that’s your brand.
00;18;08;21 – 00;18;26;22
Lauren Brollier Newton
So I’m not saying you have to be perfect online, but if I’m going to bitch about something online, I am going to say full disclosure I am not yet in alignment with the principles I teach around this. I have some work to do, but because I know all of us are going through stuff, I’m going to post this just raw, and then I’ll post a part two.
00;18;26;22 – 00;18;45;08
Lauren Brollier Newton
When I come to the spiritual lesson behind this, then at least people can see they’re not like this person is clueless. Like why? You know? So like, I just would recommend we don’t have to show up perfectly, but just know if you’re putting yourself out there, people are looking and they’re wondering and, I just would recommend that for you.
00;18;45;11 – 00;19;01;11
Lauren Brollier Newton
And for those of you who are not yet certified and you’re thinking about getting your certification and you want to be certified with us and you want to learn our modality, think about just the way you’re showing up in your day to day life. Is it a match to your vision? Is it a match to the brand, so to speak, that you’re thinking of for yourself?
00;19;01;11 – 00;19;24;13
Lauren Brollier Newton
So if your vision is I’m highly successful coach. I help other women. I’ve quit my full time job and I’m inspiring. You can show up, you can start your brand now and show up that way today. You don’t have to wait until you’re certified or get your business and we’ll help you with that. So come on over. But know that your brand starts this moment the second you’re listening to this podcast.
00;19;24;15 – 00;19;48;23
Lauren Brollier Newton
Now, let me be clear again, I know I’ve said this bunch times, but I want to be impossible to be misunderstood here. We’re not asking you to be perfect. We’re not saying you can never take a vacation or have a slip up or whatever it is, but you are in charge of your thinking. You’re messaging the way you’re showing up in the world, and you do get to decide what your personal brand is when you’re building a coaching business, when you’re not building a coaching business.
00;19;48;25 – 00;20;06;09
Lauren Brollier Newton
And you what Henry David Thoreau said, endeavor because none of us do it perfectly. I sure as heck don’t. But you endeavor to show up that way. So I love you very much. I hope this helped helped give you a little, I like to give you a, you know, a time here and there, a spiritual ass kicking.
00;20;06;11 – 00;20;20;14
Lauren Brollier Newton
Kirsten. Well, as our master coach once said, you know, let’s all pull up our big spiritual panties and and that’s, I think, what this podcast did today. So I love you all very much. And I will see you in the next episode.
00;20;20;16 – 00;20;57;09
