Most heart-centered business owners don’t start out looking to make a pile of money.
Instead, their drive to build a business and serve clients comes from a calling they feel to help others.
As someone who is interested in learning how to start a business, or taking your existing business to the next level of success, chances are you feel this calling, too.
But choosing a career in which you are outward focused and in service to others doesn’t mean that you have to earn less money.
After investing the last 40 years studying the principles for success, and applying these secrets across thousands of people’s lives, I’ve found that there are 5 steps you can take that will ensure your success when it comes to starting or growing a heart-based business.
Follow these 5 success principles that I’m about to share with you, and you will create a heart-centered business that makes a difference… AND allows you to earn an abundant income while helping others:
STEP #1: Create a clear vision for your business
Be crystal clear about what it is that you’d like to bring forth through your business:
- What is your intention?
- How will what you have to offer make a difference in the lives of others?
Create a clear, specific vision of what you would love to create. Then follow these 4 proved actions:
- Allow yourself to fall in love with your vision!
- Stay connected to it
- Play the movie of it in your mind as often as you can
- Share it with others at every opportunity
When you put your attention on the difference your business is going to make in your client’s or customer’s lives and, in the world, you will attract new ideas, support and inspiration from sources you might not have realized were there before.
STEP #2: Have a business mentor
The road to success is paved with the lessons learned by the people who inspire us.
All highly successful people will tell you that they followed in the footsteps of another before them.
They had a mentor — someone who was at least one step ahead of them on the path to success, or at least one rung above them on the career ladder… and who was willing to share their knowledge and offer a helping hand.
When looking to start or grow a heart-centered business, find someone who has already achieved the results that you want to achieve. Find someone who can help you navigate the gap between where you are now and where you would love to be.
The value of their mentorship is in the path they’ve walked before you, and their willingness to share what they’ve learned, and guide you forward.
STEP #3: Share your time with success-minded people
Jim Rohn once said: “‘You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” This is known as the Law of Averages.
If you want to create a thriving business that makes a difference and earns you an abundant income, it’s wise to associate with heart-centered, success-minded people who aspire to do the same.
Are you spending the majority of your time with people who are committed to growth and personal development, and who share the same goals, dreams and aspirations that you do?
Or do you spend your time with people who don’t really understand or support what it is you desire to create?
Seek out people who are “overcomers,” “bootstrappers,” and leaders — the kinds of people who know that they are greater than their circumstances, who see challenges as opportunities, and who value the company of like-minded individuals.
STEP #4: Do what you can, with what you have, from where you are
You are far more powerful than you realize. You have the ability to create a vision of what you would love, and the power to take steps every day toward your dreams.
Yet how often have you delayed taking the next step, because you felt you didn’t have what you needed to be successful?
How often have you procrastinated, because you thought that if you’d had just “one more thing,” “one better resource,” or a personal relationship with that “one key person,” you could produce even greater results?
The fact is, you often have far more resources available to you than you may realize in any given moment…
This is why, when embarking on starting or growing a heart-centered business, aim to do what you can, with what you have, from where you are RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT.
Whenever it seems like you don’t have what you need, or as though your circumstances are limiting you, or even the next time you simply feel stuck: just take a deep breath and ask yourself:
“What can I do, with what I have from where I am, right now, that will move me in the direction of my dream?”
Then listen, and see what arises for you! You’ll often receive some inspiration or insight that will help guide you toward what action to take next to start or grow your abundant, difference-making business.
STEP #5: Commit to progress, not perfection
Not a single one of us is perfect, and no business is perfect either.
Instead of trying to make every step of your success journey perfect, focus on maintaining your momentum.
At the start of each new day, ask yourself, “What can I do to move my business forward today?” and at the end of that day, reflect on what you did and generate ideas for what action you will take on tomorrow.
Take a step every day toward the direction of your dreams, no matter if it’s a huge leap or a small baby step. Even a small step is still putting one foot in front of the other, and if you do this consistently enough, you WILL see results!
And as you progress, give yourself permission to make mistakes, and be sure to learn from them.
Each step you take will bring you closer to your goal of making a difference and helping others, and growing a thriving business that you love. This is the natural order of things.
