3 Tips on How to Enjoy the Journey to Success
“It’s who we become in the process that’s the real magic.” – Mary Morrissey
Being patient while on the journey to achieving your goals can be challenging. In fact, I don’t think there’s anyone who’s ever achieved a goal that hasn’t had their patience tested. But these days, many people don’t understand the value of patience or even of long-term planning. In this world of instant gratification, the mantra is too often,“I want it now.”
- So how patient are you?
- Can you make plans and then work those plans as a farmer would till a field?
- Can you keep your eyes on the end result and do what it takes to get there with diligence?
Patience is a valuable quality that can be cultivated, and is especially helpful if you want to be successful.
If you feel like you could use a little extra support when it comes to being patient, here are three tips on how to harness the power of patience in your life AND still achieve your goals faster than you thought possible.
Tip #1: Increase your gratitude.
As Bob Proctor, the author of many extremely successful books, including You Were Born Rich and The Art Of Living, says,
“Goals are not for getting. Goals are for growing.”
In other words, it’s who we become in the process that’s the real gift. A great way to slow down and enjoy the process of your life journey is to practice gratitude.
Gratitude also happens to be the doorway to abundance consciousness. To start increasing your gratitude today, write down some of the things in your life that you’re extremely grateful for.
Tip #2: Work a proven system.
The best way to achieve any goal is to work with a proven, reliable and repeatable system.
But know this: In order for the system to work, you must stay the course.
There’s an old joke that goes like this: “I prayed for patience, so God gave me a long line to stand in.”
So what line are YOU standing in?
Maybe you have some health and/or fitness goals. Are you standing in line at Dunkin’ Donuts?
If so, it’s probably not the best line to be standing in.
Perhaps you want to make sure you’re standing in line at a health food store and buying groceries that you know are going to help you to reach your goals.
Or perhaps you’re considering a career change.
Are you waiting to be promoted or for things to change at your current job, or are you saying YES to every opportunity to have conversations with people who are doing what you’d love to do?
Successful people work with a system that they know works.
All you’ve got to do is work the system and trust the process.
Tip #3: Make sure your effort level is unattached to immediate results.
This tip changed my life in the world of sales, high performance and achievement.
What this means is, don’t check in every second to see if you’ve had a breakthrough result, because if you do and you haven’t hit a breakthrough, you’ll start to see your effort level diminish. In other words, don’t take your foot off the accelerator just because you’re impatient and you want to see immediate results.
Some of the most successful people I know constantly motivate themselves to do everything they can each day to move in the direction of their dreams. They know that their effort level is unattached to their results.
Let’s recap the 3 tips to harness the power of patience in your life…
- First, increase your gratitude.
- Second, work with a proven, reliable and repeatable system.
- Lastly, make sure your effort level is unattached to immediate results and take one step every day to move in the direction of your vision.
Sometimes, we’re like little kids in the back of the station wagon on vacation. We constantly ask,
“Are we there yet?”
Whenever you hear that voice pop up, know that it’s time for you to harness the power of patience and you’ll be on your way to success.
