Lauren Brollier Newton
Welcome. Welcome to the Abundant Coach. Okay, you’ve been asking for it. You’ve been waiting for it. You’ve been wanting me to do this. And we have listened. And this is what we’re doing today. You have sent in lots and lots of questions that you want to hear answered, and topics you would love to hear us talk about. And we’re going to start that.
00;00;49;05 – 00;01;09;17
Lauren Brollier Newton
So today and next week when we would normally have an interview episode, we are going to answer what you’ve been asking us, which is can you please answer questions from the audience? And that’s what I’m going to do today. So this is a this particular Q&A. This particular episode is going to be Q&A new and aspiring coach questions.
00;01;09;17 – 00;01;30;15
Lauren Brollier Newton
So maybe you’re new to coaching. Maybe you are thinking about getting certified. Maybe you’ve just gotten certified. But I would say to the veterans that I know, listen, you still want to be listening to this because there’s going to be some gold in here. So I’m going to read each question out loud. We’ve got one, two, three, 4 or 5, six, seven, eight questions that I’m going to endeavor to answer in this time I have with you.
00;01;30;18 – 00;01;54;22
Lauren Brollier Newton
And I’m going to read the questions aloud. And then we’re going to go. So first question that came in, I want to help so many types of people do so many things. How do I decide what focus my coaching business should have. So I really. Okay, I’m going to get into semantics here. But but there’s a lot of energy to the way in which we think about things.
00;01;54;22 – 00;02;16;03
Lauren Brollier Newton
And that is often expressed in our words. So what what kind of focus should should my coaching business have? My first word and piece of advice to you is don’t should yourself. In other words, don’t think I should do this because it’s strategic. Or I should do that because Lauren told me or know every thing you do in business should feel.
00;02;16;05 – 00;02;45;08
Lauren Brollier Newton
Notice I use the word should there, but I would invite you to to cause yourself to believe that everything you do in business can feel aligned, expansive, easy. Because that’s just going to keep you getting out of bed in the morning doing this thing. Once you start doing it, if you feel like you have to put yourself in a box and you should do this in marketing and strategy and all this, it’s not that you’re not going to have that, but you always want to be measuring it against that still small voice within and asking yourself, does that feel life giving to me to go that direction?
00;02;45;10 – 00;03;08;02
Lauren Brollier Newton
And what I have found is, if you’re the type of personality who wants to help lots of people do lots of things, then trying to fit yourself in a super tiny box where it’s a super specific niche is not going to light up your heart and soul. I know because I was one of those coaches. Any time I would think about this idea, if you’ve got a niche down, you got to speak to a specific person.
00;03;08;05 – 00;03;31;04
Lauren Brollier Newton
I would just feel constrictive. And so what we teach here at Brave Thinking Institute, when it comes to how if you’re a coach that can do many things, listen, our dream builder coaches and Life Mastery Consultants, which are our certification levels, they love helping lots of different people. I think that’s part of what binds us all together. Now we have many people who have a focus like fitness or health or career or business.
00;03;31;06 – 00;03;55;26
Lauren Brollier Newton
I didn’t set out to be a business coach, but I sort of ended up being one over time. Yes, you can niche down, and most of our dream builder coaches and life mastery consultants love helping people with all different things relationships, business, health, whatever it is that’s coming up for the person. So one of the things that you can do to support yourself, if you’re that type of person who loves helping lots of different people, is get a certification.
00;03;55;26 – 00;04;16;29
Lauren Brollier Newton
If you’re not already certified or get another certification that makes you a specialist in transformation. Because transformation can happen in many different areas of your life. And so if you become a specialist in how transformation actually occurs, how do people go from one pattern of life to a completely different pattern of life? Then you can help all sorts of different people.
00;04;17;02 – 00;04;34;26
Lauren Brollier Newton
So our dream builder coaches help people build a dream. Not just dream, but build that dream. See it into reality, see it into results. It doesn’t matter what the dream is. Someone wants to write a book, adopt a child, fall in love again, start a business, close a business. Whatever it is, the dream builder coach can help them do that.
00;04;34;29 – 00;05;00;10
Lauren Brollier Newton
And so the the way that we train our clients to speak to an audience, that might then feel broad because you’re not going to go out. So I can help anybody build anything that’s not going to speak enough to people. But you can say this, and this is brilliant and it works, and it works every time I help people who this is, if you’re a dream builder coach, if you’re helping people with transformation or life coaching, I help people who know there’s more for them.
00;05;00;11 – 00;05;19;23
Lauren Brollier Newton
They can feel it inside of them. They know there’s more, but they’re not exactly quite sure what it is. I also help people who know exactly what they want, but up until now, they’ve had to stress and struggle and haven’t yet achieved it. You’re speaking to a specific person. They’re you’re speaking to the person who wants more, or you’re speaking to the person who wants what they want, but they haven’t been able to get it yet.
00;05;19;24 – 00;05;35;19
Lauren Brollier Newton
Those are very specific people. Both of those types of people have to be awake enough to even consider that they want something. So it’s not like you’re speaking to no one or to everyone. You’re speaking to very specific people, but you’re keeping it open enough that if they’re the person who wants to write a book, you can help.
00;05;35;25 – 00;05;55;25
Lauren Brollier Newton
You’re the person who wants to work on their health. You can help, and the only way you’ll be able to do that is not to to specialize in weight loss, but to specialize in transformation. Because there is an invisible side to results, there is an invisible side to success. And you can help people with that. And that’s actually what we do here at the institute when we train and certified coaches.
00;05;55;27 – 00;06;15;29
Lauren Brollier Newton
All right. Next question. How do I figure out what block or limiting belief is keeping me from taking the leap, leaving my job and starting my coaching business? Okay, so one of the things that we love to share here at the Institute, our founder, Mary Morrissey, will often say, you actually don’t even have to go digging for the block or limiting belief.
00;06;15;29 – 00;06;35;22
Lauren Brollier Newton
You don’t have to go digging deep down and all that. You don’t even have to do that you vision for what you would absolutely love. So it sounds like from this question that you would love to start a coaching business, that you would love to leave your job and you’d love to start a coaching business. So if that’s the case for you, then you don’t even have to look for a block.
00;06;35;24 – 00;06;54;16
Lauren Brollier Newton
You can start visioning a hard core for a coaching business, an impact, and leaving your job at whatever you would love. And then just listen for the inner voice that says, well, how are you going to do that? You’re too old, you’re too young, you’re too smart, you’re too dumb. Whatever the voices that comes up right as you vision, that’s the block right there.
00;06;54;19 – 00;07;21;22
Lauren Brollier Newton
And the great news about how the self-limiting paradigm, that’s the language we call it instead of block the self-limiting paradigm and paradigms can change that you’re operating under right now is able to be transformed. And the beautiful, exquisite design of this universe is that that paradigm, not limiting belief, comes up not to stop you, but that you’re designed in a way with whatever stopping you will rise right up in the moment.
00;07;21;22 – 00;07;38;08
Lauren Brollier Newton
And it’s almost as if the infinite itself, God, universe, whatever word you want to put on it is saying here, transform this and you’ll be successful. So if you hear while I’m never going to be able to make money as a coach, that’s the belief that you must transform if you want to see the success that you’re visioning for.
00;07;38;11 – 00;08;00;03
Lauren Brollier Newton
I think that’s beautiful. What a blessing that we don’t have to go digging for it, that whatever we’re visioning for, the thing that’s stopping us will rise right up not to stop us, but for release. Re patterning transformation. So you start challenging those beliefs as they come up, and then you start transforming those beliefs, because the idea that you can’t make money as a coach means that look around this planet and look at all the successful coaches.
00;08;00;06 – 00;08;18;06
Lauren Brollier Newton
Or if the idea is that you, someone’s not going to like you, well, that’s probably true. That’s probably like people that don’t like me. But okay, now you add a decision point where you decide if that’s going to govern your life and what you do from now on, but that’s how you find the block. Your question was, how do I find the block that stopping me?
00;08;18;06 – 00;08;35;03
Lauren Brollier Newton
All you have to do is vision and the block will rise right up and try to stop you, and then you can transform it. But I would say, ultimately, what all fears come down to the fear of failure. The fear that somehow you’re going to suck, you’re not going to be good at what you do. You’re not going to make money.
00;08;35;03 – 00;08;54;13
Lauren Brollier Newton
It’s it’s a fear of failure. And here’s what I want everybody to hear. Success is not a crapshoot. It’s not mysterious. In a coaching business, there are certain things that you do to become successful. And if you keep doing those things long enough, you will be successful. So it’s not like, oh, it works out for some people, but not me.
00;08;54;13 – 00;09;17;25
Lauren Brollier Newton
Baloney. Actually, I mean, I know because we teach it every day at the institute, if you’re willing to follow a system and put it into place, you’ll be successful. And so if the block that comes up for you to the beautiful person that I ask this question is like, what if I fail? Well, that is a question that we ask when we don’t understand that there’s a system to create results.
00;09;17;27 – 00;09;36;20
Lauren Brollier Newton
So get help, get support. Let us help you if you resonate with us. All right. Next question. Can I coach part time until I’m ready to leave my job? How do I know when it’s time to transition from part time to full time? You can absolutely coach part time until you’re ready to leave your job. In fact, I did that myself when I started my coaching business.
00;09;36;23 – 00;09;58;21
Lauren Brollier Newton
And knowing when you’re ready to transition is really a personal thing, because some people and I fall in this camp are burned. The ship people, I’m going to burn it all down. So I have nothing to go back to because I want to do this coaching business. And what did that look like for me personally, while I put in my letter of resignation for my teaching job before I was even certified.
00;09;58;24 – 00;10;13;04
Lauren Brollier Newton
And I did that because I knew if I did a half assed go at this coaching thing that I was not going to be successful. I knew myself. And if I had tried to do part time gigs and all sorts of things during the years, and it never worked out because I didn’t have really enough energy on the thing I was trying to build.
00;10;13;06 – 00;10;40;20
Lauren Brollier Newton
Now I’m a burn the ships type of person. For some people that would act their nervous system so much that they would be paralyzed to have this idea that they somehow couldn’t pay their bills. So there’s no one size fits all to when do you know you’re ready? A conservative sort of blanket estimate would be, once you can make in your coaching business part time, 50% of what you make in your full time job, you know you’re ready.
00;10;40;20 – 00;10;54;18
Lauren Brollier Newton
Because if you’re only putting tiny part time energy to it and you’re already ready to make and you’re already making half of what you make, then you know, if you had full moon energy on it, that you would have, even more success. So that’s that is if I was going to give a general statement, that’s what I’d give.
00;10;54;20 – 00;11;12;21
Lauren Brollier Newton
But you got to know yourself. Are you are you the person who, not knowing where the next check is coming from motivates you? It motivates me. I’m like, let’s go sell. But if you’re the person who’s like, that would terrify me, then stay with the job long enough that you feel okay. I know this is this is going to work out, but still work it, still work it.
00;11;12;21 – 00;11;31;28
Lauren Brollier Newton
While you’re doing that. All right, next question. I’m gonna take a little longer on this. Next question, I think is I think it’s an important one. How do I create balance in my life while working full time and doing all the things I need to do to start a new business? Okay, so I’m going to do a word calibration like I did before.
00;11;32;01 – 00;11;48;00
Lauren Brollier Newton
You don’t need to do any of the things to start a new business. You don’t have to start the new business. You can choose to you can get to, you can want to. But I would take the word need off of it. Because what happens is when you’re nervous system keeps hearing you need to do this. You need to do that.
00;11;48;00 – 00;12;08;12
Lauren Brollier Newton
You need to hear this. You might as well just stack bricks on your chest. Because when we hear that the nervous system is very wired to want to survive, and when you hear is you need to do this, this, this, this and that to survive, that’s what it interpreted as it starts to get freaked out. So I would not say I need to do all these things to start my new business.
00;12;08;12 – 00;12;32;02
Lauren Brollier Newton
I would be saying to myself, I am so thrilled about this new business that I’m Callendar rising every nook and cranny of my day where I can breathe life into this new business. Doesn’t that just feel different energetically? Like I now go from survival mode, desperate mode, to creative mode? Like, ooh, juicy, look what I get to do to start my new business.
00;12;32;05 – 00;12;56;14
Lauren Brollier Newton
So that’s just one quick tip. Calibrate that because your nervous system is processing everything you think, say, absorb. So give it something that it can feel relaxed in. So how do I create balance while working full time? We live under this myth as a society, as Americans. But if you’re not in the USA, you’ve probably experienced this wherever you are, that somehow the harder you work, the more glorified that is.
00;12;56;14 – 00;13;16;16
Lauren Brollier Newton
Like, oh, I worked so hard and I’m so busy. My recommendation would be just get any of that kind of mentality out of your mind, that I have to work so hard and I have to stress and I have to hustle and I have to slay, and I have to wake up at 4 a.m. and do cold plunges in order to be successful.
00;13;16;18 – 00;13;36;27
Lauren Brollier Newton
All of those things can be helpful waking up early, doing cold plunges, whatever. But it’s like I don’t have to do that to be successful. I can choose to if I feel like it enlightens my life, but I don’t have to stress myself out in order to be successful. So you want to partner with. You can work a tiny amount of time and create a great amount of result.
00;13;37;00 – 00;13;56;19
Lauren Brollier Newton
That is what you want to think about for balance. I don’t have to be working full time in my coaching business to create a giant impact in my coaching business. In fact, I can work half of what I do at my full time job and make double. So my recommendation to you is think like it’s going to be easy or.
00;13;56;21 – 00;14;23;20
Lauren Brollier Newton
And then number three I’m gonna have four points here. So number three is my favorite thing to remind myself of when I think I don’t have time because I got a full time job and a kid and a husband and whatever else is, I remind myself of this. Lauren, you have 168 hours in a week. That’s 24 hours times seven days, 168 hours.
00;14;23;22 – 00;14;47;17
Lauren Brollier Newton
If I sleep for eight hours a night, that’s 56 hours. Subtract it subtracted from the 168. If I work 40 hours, that’s 48 hours. Subtracted from that 40 hours. And then let’s say I give myself five hours a day to just hang out with my kid, go grocery shopping, take a shower, eat dinner, whatever, take five hours a day and subtract it.
00;14;47;20 – 00;15;10;18
Lauren Brollier Newton
Even with sleeping eight hours a night, working 40 hours a week, and having five hours a day to just, you know, do whatever you would still, at the end of the week, have 37 hours left over. Now, I am not suggesting that you put all of 37 of those hours into your coaching business, but I am suggesting, could you put five?
00;15;10;21 – 00;15;34;06
Lauren Brollier Newton
Could you hang out with your family, go do whatever you want, party, watch reality TV, do whatever else, and then five hours commit to your coaching business and you could do so much in five hours. You can do so much in five hours. So that is what you want to look at in terms of time. Now, fourth and final point, you want to treat your calendar differently.
00;15;34;06 – 00;15;55;17
Lauren Brollier Newton
Now, however, you would honor an appointment on your calendar with a doctor or with a client, or with something at work that you know you have to be at is how you want to treat those five hours, or however much you put aside for your coaching business. This is not casual. This is not some time. I might put five hours somewhere to do my coaching business.
00;15;55;22 – 00;16;24;19
Lauren Brollier Newton
You pick a specific day in time Saturday mornings from 8 to 1. My husband watches the kid or I go to Starbucks or whatever your life set up is, and I work coaching business and you hold that appointment as sacred as you hold it with a friend, a doctor’s appointment, whatever it is, if you do those four things I just suggested, you’ll be you’ll be not only ahead of most of the coaches in the world, you’ll just be ahead of most of people in the world, because most people don’t know how to use time to benefit them.
00;16;24;22 – 00;16;53;18
Lauren Brollier Newton
All right. Next question. Can I really start a business if I have no experience? How great is news that you’ll ever receive? Everybody who started a business started with no experience. At one point, they didn’t have any experience. Warren Buffett at some point had no experience in the stock market, but he got started. I had no experience being a life coach when I started.
00;16;53;20 – 00;17;15;07
Lauren Brollier Newton
I had skills like I had been a teacher. I knew how to teach and train and stuff like that. But like, I didn’t know how to be a transformational life coach and enroll people and all that. So I wouldn’t start a coaching business with no idea of what you’re going to coach, no certification or anything. Because more so, because it’s not that you need to build, you just want to make it easier on yourself.
00;17;15;07 – 00;17;34;17
Lauren Brollier Newton
You just want to cut time so that you’re not making it hard for yourself. But in terms of having no experience, nobody has experience when they start. So I know this is going to sound harsh, but don’t think of yourself as so special. You know, it’s like only me with no experience will be successful. Nobody has experience when they start.
00;17;34;19 – 00;17;59;29
Lauren Brollier Newton
Mary Morrissey talks about giving so many of her talks to an empty room when no one showed up. I mean, that is new business 101, but what I would recommend is that if you really, truly have no experience. Because here’s the thing everybody has experience. If you’ve worked in a dental office, a dentist’s office for 30 years, you’ve got lots of experience talking to, helping people, making them feel better.
00;18;00;03 – 00;18;18;17
Lauren Brollier Newton
I was a teacher, so I had very good command of teaching skills and teaching principles. So you don’t have no experience. You just might not have this industry experience. And no one does when they first start. So stop letting that be an excuse. There’s a great book by a mentor of Mary’s. His name was Raymond Charles Barker.
00;18;18;19 – 00;18;37;01
Lauren Brollier Newton
He has a book that’s called The Power of Decision. And he says, watch your alibis. Meaning watch the excuses that you give yourself for why you can’t live the dream life that you’re having. Because what I know about you is you do have experience that will support this career. You can get the experience by getting a certification or a training.
00;18;37;01 – 00;18;53;20
Lauren Brollier Newton
And if it’s on your heart to do it, do it. And stop making the excuse that you have no experience. Go get experience then, if that really is the thing that’s stopping you, go get experience, go get the certification or whatever it is. All right. That was tough love. That was tough love. Lauren, I hope that landed for you.
00;18;53;22 – 00;19;18;29
Lauren Brollier Newton
Next question. How do I get clients when I’m inexperienced and just starting out? I can’t position myself as an expert because I’m not one people know, okay, so there’s different levels of expert. There’s the level of expert. That’s Mary Morrissey. I’ve been doing this for 50 years. You know, like there’s a level of expert, but there’s a but the but the inexperience and the expertise are actually different things.
00;19;19;01 – 00;19;46;00
Lauren Brollier Newton
So when you’re just starting out and you’re inexperienced, that’s fine. But if you’ve gotten trained or certified or you have a curriculum, you teach all of our certified coaches, whether the dream builder coaches or life mastery consultants, each of those people has it’s serious training in transformation. They go through our online training center, they go through programs, they go through a coaching skills practicum where they have to learn coaching skills.
00;19;46;02 – 00;20;16;26
Lauren Brollier Newton
They go through an experience of becoming certified, and that creates a level of expertise in them. That’s more than 99% of the world’s population knows about transfer. So even if you’re inexperienced in terms of I haven’t coached many clients or I’m new to business, if you go somewhere like our certification where you get a serious certified version, you have way more expertise in that topic than anybody that you’re meeting in the grocery store, which inherently makes you an expert.
00;20;16;28 – 00;20;35;18
Lauren Brollier Newton
That’s one of the things that I’m always sort of, all of us, all faculty are really putting into our coaches minds is 98% of the world’s people does not know this topic. So just by being trained and certified it, you’re way more expert than the average person that’s going to come to your workshop or call you for coaching.
00;20;35;20 – 00;20;56;07
Lauren Brollier Newton
And I will tell you this, even if you are trained and certified somewhere, like I was trained and certified as a Life Mastery consultant at Brave Thinking Institute. If you saw Mary Morrissey, who’s the ultimate expert of all experts and I next to each other, she trained me to teach the exact same thing she teaches. It’s going to come out differently in both of us.
00;20;56;07 – 00;21;15;15
Lauren Brollier Newton
Not because we have different. Yeah, she’s way more expert than I am, but I’m going to have my certain flavor to it. That’s going to sound different. Even though I was trained and certified in the thing that she trained me and certified him. So you might be thinking, well, if everybody gets trained and certified as this kind of coach, then my level of expertise goes down because other people are trained and certified in this.
00;21;15;17 – 00;21;45;18
Lauren Brollier Newton
But you can just see everybody has a different flavor. No two certified coaches are going to have the same flavor. Mary and I could teach the same exact topic and it would come out differently. Yeah, because of different expertise levels, but also because different personalities, different life experiences, different ways of explaining things. So what I’m saying to you is if you go get trained and certified to teach something that most of the planet isn’t an expert in, you will by means of that have a level of expertise.
00;21;45;21 – 00;22;03;14
Lauren Brollier Newton
And when you say, won’t people know? I mean, if they ask you, have you ever served a client? You’re not going to lie and say, yes, but you can say, I am new to my business, but here’s what I will tell you. I went through rigorous training. I went through hours of training, getting certified live interaction practicum.
00;22;03;14 – 00;22;20;00
Lauren Brollier Newton
I’ve coached clients in there and like, let’s say you’re a nurse. I’ve been a nurse for 30 years. That’s all I’ve been doing is coaching people. So if you’re asking me if I have a level of expertise, the answer is yes. And then, you know, some of us, might say so put that in your pipe and smoke it.
00;22;20;00 – 00;22;39;07
Lauren Brollier Newton
Right. Right. Like, that’s, that’s the confidence that I want you all to have is like, okay, like somebody might not want to be coached by a new coach. But I will tell you, if you show up teaching what you teach, showing people that you care, I literally never, ever once had people ask me how many clients I’d served.
00;22;39;10 – 00;22;56;22
Lauren Brollier Newton
Never. Why? Because I showed up being certified at this institute, empowered to know that I was an expert in what I was trained and certified in, or else we wouldn’t call it a certification. I know a lot of people. There’s all sorts of places you can go online and spend $10 and two minutes and get a coach certification.
00;22;56;28 – 00;23;17;05
Lauren Brollier Newton
I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about put yourself in a place where you resonate with the training, where you can feel good about saying, I do have expertise on this topic. All right. Next question. How can I inspire other people when I’m not yet where I want to be? How did you inspire people to a vision of success and abundance when you were living in a basement?
00;23;17;07 – 00;23;37;27
Lauren Brollier Newton
That’s such a great question. I don’t go to my doctor’s office and ask my doctor how his pancreas is doing, what his diet’s like. I don’t do that. I don’t go and say, hey, what is your, health status? Do you run marathons? I don’t ask my doctor that I trust that he has expertise in a topic, or she has expertise in a topic.
00;23;37;29 – 00;23;56;24
Lauren Brollier Newton
I just went to the doctor the other day. Urgent care? Because I thought I. I had a C-section surgery eight months ago, and I thought, I, like, ripped my C-section scar open, turns out, no, I just severely pulled the muscle that connects my hipbone basically to my leg. I did not walk in that office and be like, where are you certified?
00;23;56;28 – 00;24;14;04
Lauren Brollier Newton
What’s going on? What do you know? Do you run marathons? Let me see your blood pressure. Like I’m not asking her about her life. I trust that she has expertise. And she did. And she was wonderful. She was warm and friendly and she’s like, oh, nope. This is what it is. It’s this muscle. She helped me feel good and off I went.
00;24;14;04 – 00;24;37;24
Lauren Brollier Newton
And I paid my whatever, you know, whatever it was a 100 bucks and went out the door. Can you please start thinking about coaching that way? I believe it’s because of this influencer culture that it’s like, oh, if I’m not standing by a private jet, I can’t be a coach. Some people look for that. What most of my clients when I was first getting started looked for is, do I believe this woman cares about me, and do I believe she can help me?
00;24;37;26 – 00;25;04;06
Lauren Brollier Newton
And so that’s number one. Is that, I want us I would invite us to get out of this culture where I have to be standing next to, like, a Lamborghini or something, to to prove that I’m successful. The principles that you teach themselves should be the main story. I know that what I teach that I learned here when I got certified at Brave Thinking Institute, absolutely helps people transform their life, because I’ve seen it over and over and over again.
00;25;04;08 – 00;25;23;19
Lauren Brollier Newton
I don’t need to be successful, special whatever to be able to share a principle and let the principles show that person how it works. Now, do I share that I’m a seven figure coach? That I’ve done this, this, not that I’ve spoken to thousands of people? Yes, because I have. And it helps people get to know me. But I didn’t have that when I was living in the basement.
00;25;23;19 – 00;25;55;20
Lauren Brollier Newton
So I showed up and I was passionate about the principles themselves. You can build a dream. There is more for you. That’s what I was passionate about because not because it was just inspirational. Because I had a system of transformation that I could then take people through in what we called the Dream Builder program. So the other thing that I will share is that I wasn’t even divorced on paper yet when I started my coaching business, and I would go and I would give these workshops and I would say, just five months ago, I found out my husband was living a double life.
00;25;55;23 – 00;26;11;00
Lauren Brollier Newton
And I decided that I don’t ever want another woman to feel alone, like I feel right now. So I started my coaching business to help anybody else that might be going through something tough to show them that you can get up and keep going. But just that alone. I was still living in the basement. I didn’t have money.
00;26;11;00 – 00;26;31;13
Lauren Brollier Newton
I was still in debt. All of those things. I didn’t have a new relationship yet and people were so inspired like, oh my gosh, this only happened to her five months ago, and she’s up on the stage, so it doesn’t have to be the end all, be all result. Just the fact, I mean, you could get up on stage and say, I was terrified to get up here and talk to you today, but I’m doing it anyway because I care that much about what I’m teaching.
00;26;31;16 – 00;26;51;07
Lauren Brollier Newton
That’s all you need to do to be inspirational. You don’t have to have everything worked out all right. So hopefully, hopefully that gives you enough to work with and that helps you. All right. Last question. And then we’re going to continue this next week. And part two how do I overcome the fear of putting myself out there. I don’t know what to say.
00;26;51;10 – 00;27;13;19
Lauren Brollier Newton
And I’m an introvert okay. I have a very personal revelation to give you on a scale of introvert to extrovert, because of course it’s a spectrum. I would put myself way the hell over on the introvert side, and I know that that’s shocking to some of you who’ve been listening to it for a long time or who know who know me and the Institute.
00;27;13;22 – 00;27;28;22
Lauren Brollier Newton
I don’t want to go to a party. I don’t want to small talk with people. I would much prefer to pet my cat and watch TV and read a book and just hang out with my husband. Only I am not an extrovert. I know because I’m speaking. It sounds like I am, but I am not like, oh, let me just go meet people.
00;27;28;28 – 00;27;51;10
Lauren Brollier Newton
No, no, that is not me at all. What I care about, and I said this in the last question is helping people, and I can’t help them if I don’t share what I know. Well, my invitation to you would be stop thinking about putting yourself out here, putting yourself like, oh, Lauren’s on this podcast. I’m going to go put myself.
00;27;51;10 – 00;28;15;13
Lauren Brollier Newton
I’m going to go show myself. No, it will help you. If you think I’m going to go share what I know with others, because I think it matters to this planet. And so in order to know what to say, that comes from practice. I used to when I would go to networking meetings, I would write out what I wanted to say because I’d know, okay, they’re going to make me stand up for a minute and say what I do.
00;28;15;15 – 00;28;33;09
Lauren Brollier Newton
And for some people I know, that’s terrifying, but just stick with me here. I would write it out and then I would practice it, and then I would practice it and practice it and practice it and memorize it and memorize it and memorize it, and then get in my car and practice it in practice and practice it. So I don’t think that I have to just know what to say when I stand up.
00;28;33;11 – 00;28;55;05
Lauren Brollier Newton
The reason that if you’re listening to me and you’re thinking, oh, she’s a really good speaker, if you were thinking that the reason is because I’ve been practicing it my whole life, I didn’t just wake up and know what to say. I study every week, I practice, I write things out. I literally, sometimes our executive director, Matt Boggs, likes to refer to me as an animal, and he means that in the best way.
00;28;55;05 – 00;29;16;07
Lauren Brollier Newton
You’re a beast. In the best way is that I love studying this, practicing it, working it. And it’s not like overwork. It’s like, I love it and I can’t get enough of it. And I take notes and I write it down and I practice it. It’s not like, oh, it just comes natural. I mean, just do do certain people have certain gifts and abilities?
00;29;16;07 – 00;29;37;15
Lauren Brollier Newton
Yes, I have lots of gifts and abilities, but the public speaking part seriously came from a lot, a lot, a lot of years of practice. I’m going on two decades of teaching. And so this this is something that you can practice as an introvert. So instead of thinking of putting yourself out there, what have you thought about putting the message out there?
00;29;37;21 – 00;29;56;16
Lauren Brollier Newton
The thing that you help people with out there, the stories that transformation, what if that’s what’s being put out there? You’re just the messenger, you’re just the conduit, but you’re a very small part of it. Like, I really believe that. I really believe for me personally, that I am connected to a power that knows all things, call it God, creator, universe, spirit, whatever you want to call it.
00;29;56;18 – 00;30;16;13
Lauren Brollier Newton
And I am just the conduit to what is required for this planet to transform. And if you can think of it that way, it takes personality, an introvert extrovert out of it, and it puts more at the center of the message itself. The final thing that may help you to to put the message out there, we’ll say it that way.
00;30;16;15 – 00;30;43;20
Lauren Brollier Newton
Think about the person who’s sitting in the audience that doesn’t know what you know. They have no idea, in the case of a life coach, that they can even think a different thought about themselves or about the world. They might have even been the achiever type personality. But it always feels like a struggle. It never feels fulfilling. Do you want that person to keep doing that, or are you willing to put the message of what you know out there in order to support that person’s transformation?
00;30;43;20 – 00;31;03;08
Lauren Brollier Newton
Think of one person whose life you can support and never be afraid to paint the barn door red. You can go into the meeting meeting and the first person you meet, you can say, hey, I’m kind of an introvert, a little bit nervous. Do you like this meeting? You know, people love authenticity and you have full permission to be the authentic version of you.
00;31;03;10 – 00;31;31;12
Lauren Brollier Newton

What’s stopping you from starting a coaching business and creating the life you dream of?
In this high-impact Q&A episode of The Abundant Coach, Lauren Brollier Newton dives into the real questions submitted by YOU — new and aspiring life coaches who are navigating doubts, decisions, and the desire to live a life of freedom, purpose, and prosperity.
Whether you’re still working a 9–5 and wondering if you can coach part time, or you’re unsure how to find clients without experience, this episode is your reminder that you’re not alone—and you’re more ready than you think. Lauren shares powerful mindset shifts, practical strategies, and vulnerable stories from her own journey, including how she launched a coaching business from her basement (before she was officially divorced, no less), and the exact questions to ask yourself when fear, self-doubt, or confusion creep in.
If you’re struggling to choose a niche or focus area, Lauren offers a soul-aligned alternative. Instead of boxing yourself into a hyper-specific niche that drains your energy, consider becoming a specialist in transformation. When you know how to guide someone through real change, you can work with clients across areas like relationships, career, health, and purpose—with freedom and integrity.
Lauren also shares the exact messaging framework she used to attract clients without narrowing her audience too much.
You don’t have to dig endlessly to find your limiting beliefs before starting a coaching business or to experience success. Just vision for what you want—and notice what voices rise up to stop you. That inner resistance? That’s the belief that’s asking to be transformed.
Instead of seeing fear as a dead-end, Lauren teaches how to use it as a doorway to healing, growth, and aligned action in your coaching business.
Is starting a coaching business while working a full-time job really possible? Yes—and Lauren explains how to do it without burning out. She breaks down:
Balance isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing the right things with intention. Lauren shares how she leveraged just five focused hours a week to grow her business, even while working full-time. She also introduces her 168-hour time freedom framework to help you claim time you didn’t even know you had.
Every coach starts with zero clients. Lauren lovingly dismantles the myth that you need years of experience or social proof to inspire others. What you need is a powerful message, passion for helping people, and a proven system to support transformation.
Even better? She shows you how to own your expertise—even as a beginner—and why your authenticity will always matter more than your résumé.
If you’ve ever asked, “Who am I to coach anyone?” or “What if people don’t take me seriously?”—this is your pep talk. Lauren shares:
If you’ve ever wondered why you keep getting the same results—whether it’s in your finances, relationships, health, or career—this free masterclass is your missing piece.
