Taking Action Is the Bridge Between Setting Goals and Accomplishing Them – Here Are 3 Tips to Do It Despite Feeling Like You’re Dragging Your Feet
Most life coaches have been there at one point or another…
There’s a project or task you need to complete, but you just don’t feel like doing it.
OR there’s a phone call you need to make, but you’re dreading it.
Maybe there’s even an event you know would be great to attend, but you’d rather curl up on the couch with ice cream and a good book.
Feeling less than inspired to take action is actually a common problem that can happen to anyone who has goals and dreams.
There are so many factors that contribute to feeling motivated that sometimes, these factors simply aren’t aligned, and it seems like an impossible feat to get into the mood to be productive.
How to Get Inspired When You’re Not Motivated At All
The good news is that there are three VERY powerful ways you can jumpstart your inspiration to get into the groove of taking action and get going even if you don’t initially feel like it.
1. Take baby steps.
When you know you need to take action but you’re not feeling very inspired, the first thing that I recommend is to remind yourself that living a life you truly love is not a sprint – it’s a marathon.
So claim the small wins and pace yourself by taking baby steps that move you closer toward your dreams.
For example, if you don’t feel like working out, rather than going for a 10-mile run, you could simply put on your workout clothes and go for a walk. What’s great about starting small is that you quickly begin to develop a magical thing called momentum.
So let’s say you walk up a small hill. You may start looking around at the view and suddenly feel inspired to take the next step.
So you begin to move faster, and you realize that moving faster feels natural.
Remember – it’s not necessary to go after every single thing with gusto.
All you need to do is take a small step, even if you don’t feel like it.
Know that if taking a small step feels heavy or you feel like your feet are dragging, then drag them! Drag them slowly.
The point here is to just get going. Let it be okay to slow your pace, but keep moving and you won’t lose momentum.
2. Surround yourself with winners.
One of the best ways to get inspired is to connect with and let yourself be influenced by others who are taking inspired action.
In other words, surround yourself with winners. Sticking with the winners is a way to super-charge your inspiration when you don’t feel motivated.
Highly successful people choose to spend as much time as possible with positive thinking, success-minded people who are not only seeking to become the best versions of themselves, but who are actually encouraging others to be their best selves, as well.
Twice a week, we have Accelerator Calls with our coaches (one of the benefits our students receive with certification training), during which we come together to build our businesses, and it’s a great way to stick with the winners.
It’s always massively inspiring to hear them share with each other what they’re doing that works, and they also walk away feeling inspired to take action.
3. Turn up the volume on your gratitude.
The truth is that some days you won’t feel inspired. However, you can be grateful. By feeling and expressing your gratitude (even if it’s simply for the gift of another day of life), you will naturally cultivate a more inspired energy within you.
You are a part of something far more powerful and divine than your list of goals and dreams.
By simply striving to be a better version of yourself, you can make a positive impact in the world that you’re a part of.
You can spread that positive energy so that it helps others and, as a natural result, you will wind up helping yourself.
Let’s review the 3 steps to taking action, even when you don’t feel inspired
First, know that it’s okay to move a little slower.
The key is to keep moving and do what you can to get inspired. Second, stay connected to other winners and they will encourage you to do your best when you don’t feel motivated.
And last but definitely not least, focus on cultivating an attitude of gratitude each and every day, even if it’s only for the gift of living another day.
By practicing these three things, you’ll start to experience less time feeling like you’re dragging your feet and more time making progress on creating a life and business you love!
Everyone experiences these feelings, but with a little practice, and by continuing to move in the direction of a life you’d truly love to live, you can focus on doing your best every day and little by little, you’ll begin to get inspired and gain some momentum.
