Life coaching can be an amazing, life-giving career.
You’ve seen the posts on social media: the freedom to choose their own hours, the abundance to work from that beautiful beach destination, the autonomy to go on vacation without having to ask…
And to top it off, they feel fulfilled by work that makes a positive impact.
Now you’re wondering if it could be possible for you, too.
Whether you aspire to be a life coach or you’re exploring the possibility of becoming one, just know this:
There has never been a better time to be a life coach.
The coaching and personal development industry is one of the fastest-growing 6-figure sectors in the United States and the world!
There’s an ever-increasing demand today for coaching services because so many people want more out of their lives, and they’re searching for support to achieve their goals faster.
This is great news…
But if you’re anything like me when I first started, you might feel called to make a greater, positive impact in the world…
And at the same time, you may still be asking yourself “What is a life coach? What do life coaches actually do? Is it really a good career option?”
As someone who’s been there, done that, I’m here to tell you the truth about life coaching.
So let’s start from the beginning…
What Is Life Coaching and What Does a Life Coach Do?
Life coaches help people release limiting beliefs, move through challenges, discover their core purpose and fulfill their cherished dreams – even if they may have once thought were impossible.
It goes beyond a simple career path, it’s a sacred calling to be of service and empower people to create a life they love living, and make their dreams come true.
Are Life Coaching and Therapy The Same?
No. While these two careers have points in common, it’s critical to understand that life coaching isn’t meant to treat any mental health condition – that’s what mental health professionals are for.
What life coaches do instead is use their coaching skills to catapult a client’s personal growth, and help them achieve a specific goal or outcome.
As a coach, you facilitate transformation through the coaching process, by guiding the creation of an action plan that moves the client in the direction of their dreams, and providing support along the way.
How Much Can You Make As a Life Coach?
What a life coach earns varies depending on different factors, such as their experience, their niche, the coaching format they use, the coaching services they offer, whether they do it full-time or part-time…
So unlike regular employee positions, there isn’t a fixed range for what a life coach can make a year.
The good news is that the sky’s the limit!
Because there are coaching formats that allow you to multiply your impact without increasing your hours, you can scale your income as much as you want – there’s no glass ceiling in coaching…
And because of the incredible changes that life coaches make in their clients’ lives, it’s not uncommon for coaches to make a six-figure income in the process!
What Does It Look Like to Actually Coach Someone?
The way a life coach works and how they conduct a life coaching session can be different from one coach to another, depending on the coaching model they’re trained in.
But before we go any further, let me make something clear:
As a coach, you DON’T need to have all the answers.
Here at Brave Thinking Institute, we believe that the highest authority in our client’s life is… themselves.
We believe that our job as coaches is to help clients tap into their own inner guidance.
That’s why we train our coaches in evocative coaching.
Unlike a directive coaching model, in which the coach gives the client ideas about what they should do, a coach following the evocative coaching model uses a series of questions to lead the client to finding their own answers.
We’ve found the evocative coaching model to be the fastest, easiest, and most sustainable way to transformation.
This means that to have success as a coach, being a good listener, having empathy, and asking the right questions are skills far more important than having the right answer or best advice.
Do I Need to Be a Certified Life Coach?
Being a certified life coach means you’ve been trained in a particular methodology.
This is important because your long-term success depends on delivering results consistently – and coaching certifications provide you with the tools, knowledge and training to do so.
At Brave Thinking Institute, we use a vision-driven coaching model.
This means we train our coaches not to just help people overcome challenges and difficulties, but to go one step beyond – and empower people to create a life they love living.
Inside our certification, first you learn a proven transformational system to help people discover what they’d really love for their lives, bringing their true desires, dreams, and goals to the surface.
Second, you’ll discover how to support your clients in designing a vision of their ideal lives.
And lastly, you’ll learn a system for unlocking those visions and helping clients actually start creating lives they love living!
These three areas are the basis and the core of life coaching.

What Types of Life Coaches Are There? How Do I Find My Niche?
There are more coaching niches than you can probably think of!
If you love health and well-being, you could become a health coach. If you love business, you could become a business or leadership coach.
You could also choose to become a relationship coach, a creativity coach, a career coach, a transition coach and so on!
In short, you can become a coach in any particular area that you’re invested in or interested in.
Whether it’s to find that love of their life, improve their health, or simply live a life they love living, I love working with anyone who wants to transform their life.
So know this: You can work with anyone you choose!

What If I Have Another Job? Can I Be a Life Coach Part-Time?
The answer to this question is yes!
Actually, most of the coaches we train have other jobs when they first start coaching.
You can start coaching part-time and then move to full-time when you’re ready, or you can keep coaching part-time if you love your other profession.
If you choose to stay as a part-time coach, just make sure you do it because it’s what lights you up, and not out of fear of failure at your new career, or being apprehensive of a big change.
That being said, the most important thing to know is that the choice is yours.
You get to build whatever you want for your life and coaching business, and create the right work-life balance for you.
Do Life Coaches Typically Work from Home or In An Office?
One of the best perks of being a life coach and having your own coaching business is that you can work from anywhere in the world, as long as you have a computer with a camera, a microphone and a strong internet signal.
Life coaches can work from anywhere in the world – virtually or in person.
As a life coach, you have endless opportunities to support and coach others, and to build a business and a life that you love!
As a Life Coach, Do I Have to Own My Own Business?
As a life coach, you get to make your own choices.
You can have your own business where you have total freedom and autonomy to run things as you prefer, set your own hours, and decide where you’ll work from.
If you don’t think you’d love to own your own business, there are corporate and privately-owned coaching companies who look for and hire great life coaches.
In other words, as a life coach, you have a choice to either own your own business or work as an employee for another company.
Will I Only Work 1:1 With Clients? Or Are There Other Coaching Formats?
There are several methodologies that you can use as a life coach, but here are three of the most common:
- One on One Coaching
The good news about one-on-one coaching is that you can work over the phone, on Skype or in person. With the technology we have today, you can coach people from all over the world once you agree on a time that works for both of you! One-on-one coaching is probably the most common coaching methodology.
- Group coaching
Group coaching is the second most common coaching methodology. With this coaching methodology, a small number of clients, usually between three to five to start with, join a group for a specified period of time, usually three or six months. You usually meet once a week as a group and although you would be leading the calls, the group would support each other and learn as you coach them one-on-one during your group calls. The idea here is that each client gets tremendous value from hearing everyone else be coached, in addition to being coached themselves.
- Live events
The third common coaching methodology is live events. If you like working with your clients in person, enjoy speaking in front of crowds, and want to help a lot of people get a fast start and learn a great deal in a short amount of time… then a live, on-stage event can be an incredible way to do this! Live events are also a way for a larger number of people to learn about you and a great way to give them an opportunity to talk to you about going further with one-on-one or group coaching.
Many coaches combine one-on-one coaching, group coaching and live events to create a successful business.

Beatrice Maraizu,
What if I am interested to be a life coach, but not very fluent in English language or have an accent!
What if I don’t like to share about my career and business on Social Media, any hope or room for me in this field?
Brave Thinking Institute
Yes! The right people for you are out there… you could work with people who speak your native tongue, with others who aren’t confident in their own English speaking skills (imagine all the people who want to work with a coach but aren’t because they’re nervous about their own accent or fluency), or with the many English speakers who will find great value in what you have to offer regardless of your accent. And, while social media can be an important part of marketing and growing a coaching business, many coaches choose to focus on in-person networking, community connections, and word-of-mouth to grow their businesses. It’s entirely possible. I’m interested in sharing my personal journey to financial stability and physical fitness as a life coach. I like the idea of merging these into a life coaching program. This idea came to me this morning and I am interested in your feedback. Thank you
Franckel Val
I am very much interested in your life coaching program.
The only question I have is the following: Do I get trained to work on my own OR do I have to sell your programs? I know I will need a mentor.
I would appreciate an honest answer since I am not interested in being a sales person.

Hey Mary
