I’m thrilled to invite you to join me in claiming that this year as “The Year of the New More Vibrant You.” One of the big mistakes that most people make when they’re trying to create new habits and new results in their life, is they often bite off more than they can chew and attempt to completely change many big habits overnight. That’s a big mistake in the art of habit change.
And here’s why this matters. According to the U.S. News & World Report 80% of people do not achieve their New Year’s resolutions each year! Yikes, that’s pretty dismal.
So here are 3 keys that are proven to work and last!
Key #1 – Choose ONE Keystone Habit
One of the keys that I work on in my private health and wellbeing coaching practice is to help clients start with one keystone habit and then break down the change they would love to make into small bite size pieces.
Key #2 -Break it Down into Bite Size Pieces, and use the 5-Minute Rule
So I’ll give you an example. Let’s imagine that you haven’t exercised for years, or you haven’t been exercising consistently in the way that you would love. And this year you would really love to shift that, and you would love to bring more healthy movement into your life, movement that you love, and especially movement that leaves you feeling energized and uplifted and strong and flexible in your life.
Instead of saying you are going to do an hour of movement every day, which is a big shock to your system, I recommend you set a very small do-able goal at first and let the amount grow from there. This way you give yourself a sure win.
Particularly for my clients who haven’t been exercising much at all, start with what I call the five minute rule. Install 5 minutes of fun movement. This way when the limiting belief says, “I don’t have time to move today to exercise,’ you can’t actually argue with not having five minutes. Most everyone can find at least 5 minutes of time during the week.
The 5-Minute Rule
So imagine practicing just 5 minutes of movement, a minimum of three times a week. Here’s the beautiful thing. Once you get past that self-sabotage, the part of you that wants to argue that you don’t have time, and you decide to do it anyway, chances are you will do more. Here’s what you say to yourself: “I’m going to get out and do 5 minutes of walking, or 5 minutes of stretching, 5 minutes of jumping jacks, or pushups, or whatever would be fun.. I’m going to create more flexibility and strength in my body!”
Here’s to this year being The New Year For the New More Vibrant You! And here’s to choosing one Keystone habit, breaking it down into bite size pieces, and using the 5-minute rule for success.
If you start small and use the 5 minute rule at least three times a week, you’re going to be much more likely to succeed. But there’s one big key that brings it all together!
Key #3 – Get Expert Support and Accountability
In addition to the above tools, one of the biggest tools for success is to get expert support. I invite you to explore bringing in some support around achieving your health and wellbeing goals this year. This is not a sign of weakness. It’s actually a sign of strength and intelligence. The most successful people on the planet get expert support, and mentoring.
There will be links right here on this page for you to be able to explore receiving some additional support, accountability, and maybe even health coaching to create even more incredible, vibrant health this year.
