After so much conditioning from the outside world, it can be challenging to tune into our inner truth, and truly listen to ourselves.
Some women at first feel that they’re being pushy by speaking up and owning their voice. Others feel uncomfortable — as if they were venturing into uncharted territory, wondering what unexpected perils they’ll find.
And for some, it can feel as if they were doing something forbidden… almost as if some special permission was needed to reconnect with their own soul!
But rest assured:

Your feelings are a source of wisdom.
Most of us have been trained to make decisions with our minds: analyzing, listing pros and cons, researching…
While those processes can be useful, when you listen to your heart, and your gut, aligned with your higher power, a whole new world of wisdom becomes available to you.
You will be able to tell not just if something is ‘convenient’, ‘productive’ or useful… but if it’s aligned with your soul! When you tune into your feelings, connected with your higher self, you’ll be able to navigate life easier, and with more joy!
Listening to yourself increases your self-love.
As they say, ‘you can’t love what you don’t know’! When you start tuning into your inner voice, you’ll discover the deeper layers of what makes you “you.”

The gift of feeling heard
As you’ve seen, we all deserve to feel heard! It’s one of the most basic of all human needs.
However, most people were taught to behave according to society’s expectations — to ‘play’ a certain role, to do “the right things,” “the right way,” for “the right reasons.”.
This is particularly true for women! We have been trained for centuries to fulfill our duties as mothers, wives, daughters, and career women before even asking ourselves “What do I want? How do I feel?”
Painful as this can be, the good news is we can start reconnecting with our inner voice, our truth, our needs, our desires, our own thoughts…
We can give ourselves the gift of feeling heard!
But just like it can be scary to open up to someone else, acknowledging our own feelings (especially when they don’t make logical sense to us) might take some practice, or even courage at first.
Remember that all emotions are valid! Your feelings are like a computer read out — helping direct your attention to what you’ve been thinking, your inner beliefs, and even your intuition.
By becoming more aware of your inner truth and body wisdom this helps you to navigate life in a way that’s truly aligned with your inner-most desires and values.
If you’d like to start tuning into your inner guidance, there are simple, yet highly effective and powerful tools that you can use in your daily life to reconnect with your feelings and step into your power:
Journaling.
Sometimes, voicing out our concerns feels particularly vulnerable, or we may not even know exactly what to say.
The soft and continuous pace of writing can give you extra time to process your emotions, and capture your feelings in a safe space you can come back to.
On top of that, the act of writing stimulates the connection between both hemispheres of your brain, allowing both the creative and the logical side of you to express themselves at unison.
You can also use journal prompts to heal your inner critic, and direct that energy to positive, expansive feelings.
Meditation.
Meditation is an amazing method to connect with your inner voice, and listen to your true wisdom without external interference.
It may take some practice to focus all of your energy inwards, instead of interacting with the outer world, in a state of perpetual ‘doing.’
But after you learn how to take a couple of minutes to connect with yourself, it can easily become one of the most nurturing and healing practices you enjoy!
Affirmations.
Affirmations can help remind us of the truth of who we really are: powerful, expansive, beautiful souls having a human experience! Like, “I am enough, I am perfect and whole exactly as I am.”
Feel free to repeat them in your mind, say them aloud, or write them down if you feel called to it. Trust that your inner wisdom will guide you to the method that works best for you.
Express yourself.
A great way to open the door to true understanding and feeling heard, is speaking your truth and giving voice to your true emotional wisdom.
At times we refrain from sharing our feelings because it can be scary to be vulnerable, or because we feel that certain feelings are not valid, or that we ‘should’ fulfill a certain role.
However, when we do this, our unexpressed feelings don’t just go away…
Instead, they stay stuck in our bodies, which can create emotional distress, or even physical ailments in the long term!
So speak up and open your heart in daily conversations — first with people you know will be receptive and loving.
This will empower you to step into your truth more and more each day and will make a big difference in all areas of your life.
The importance of listening to your “Still Small Voice Within”
Acknowledging our feelings also brings a major advantage: it’s the fastest way to open the door to the guidance of our intuition!
Intuition (or the Still Small Voice, as I like to call it) is your greatest ally to start living a joyful, meaningful, vibrant life!
Your intuition is always speaking to you, but it’s not always easy to listen — its voice is usually muffled by layers of conditioning, and all the ways you were taught you ‘should’ behave…
But as you start listening to yourself and trusting the wisdom of your body, you will quiet outer influences and noise, allowing you to listen to your intuition better!
Just as each and every one of us experiences feelings and emotions in a particular way, our intuition will also speak to us in a unique way: some people feel their body light up with joy or contract when facing a situation, others feel a “pull” towards certain choices, while some experience a sense of deep ‘knowing.’

It took me years to release patterns of overtraining and under-eating that I picked up as a professional dancer, that were not serving my health, and were not for my highest good.
I’ve come a long way and I now know my voice and truth is worthy of love, respect and honor.
