As I dive head-on into my 40’s I notice now more than ever the importance of my natural life-style and how it’s made a BIG difference over the years.
I often get told I look a decade younger (or more) than I am.
And actually, that’s not my goal.
I think what people are really telling me is I look healthy, vibrant, that I glow, and that I don’t look tired, depleted and old.
So how can you feel and look radiant and vibrant? Here are my top ten tips!
- Keep yourself hydrated
Drink plenty of alkaline water every day. I say “alkaline water,” because most water from the tap is very acidic and contains chlorine which dries the skin. Properly hydrating your skin will flush out toxins from your body which cause damage. - Get enough Vitamin D
Do not expose yourself for long hours to direct sun, this will slow down skin aging and prevent early onset of wrinkles. However, do get some sun, if possible, daily using non-toxic sunscreen, and take a good Vitamin D supplement. I take 5,000 mil a day which was prescribed by a popular Harvard trained MD and holistic medical doctor. - Exercising
Exercise opens up your skin pours, help eliminate toxins, leaves you with a glow, and increases your endorphins. It also helps keep your skin toned and tight. - Don’t smoke and avoid alcohol & sugar
I think this is a major factor. Abusing your body by smoking, or excessive drinking, and sugar consumption adds up really fast. People get dark circles under their eyes, and the toxins and inflammation accumulate over time. However, you can get some help to kick those habits and rewind the clock into a happier more vibrant self in not time. Try it, go on a 30-day no smoke, alcohol or sugar detox, and see how amazing you feel! - Moisturizer
Use a good moisturizer every day, especially on your face to make your skin look healthy and glowing. Make sure it’s non-toxic and organic. You can even use a little organic coconut oil, which I love. - Make-up products
Try to use natural or organic skin care make-up products. Chemical based make-up products are very harmful for your skin. I love the brand “100% Pure.” - Cleanse your skin before you sleep
Your skin needs breathing time. Sleeping with make-up on your face can cause acne and pimples. Rinse off and cleanse your face with water and an organic cleanser before the bed to remove make-up and dirt from your face. - Avoid stress
This is another biggie. A few times a day, take a couple deep breaths, take a little walk, get some fresh air, read an affirmation. Do everything in your power to eliminate un-necessary stress and build into your day little moments of joy, fun & play. - Eat healthy, organic – natural – “real” food
Make sure each meal is full of multi colored organic fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds and omega-3s and 6s. This will provide you with the required vitamins and minerals that are good for your skin, and antioxidants required to keep you looking fresh and radiant. (Avoid dairy, sugar, too much wheat & flour, and anything processed or packaged.) - Exfoliate once in a week & use a dry-skin brush
Use a facial exfoliation product that suits your skin type. The exfoliation will get rid of dead skin cells that are clogging up on the top layer of your skin and bring the hidden more youthful skin to the top. And dry skin brushing stimulates your lymphatic system. Lymphatic congestion is a major factor leading to inflammation and disease. By stimulating your lymphatic system and helping it release toxins, dry skin brushing is a powerful detoxification aid.
