How You Can Embrace the Transformative Energy of Spring to the Lightest, Brightest, Most Vibrant Version of YOU!
Spring has always been one of my favorite times of the year. The days grow longer, warmer and the chill of winter becomes a fading memory. But it’s also a time of budding new life, and above all, the incredible potential of renewal and transformation.
On the first day of true spring, this powerful transformative energy is so alive and abundant that it’s nearly palpable. The first official day of spring is known by different names throughout cultures all across the world, yet all of them celebrate the special day as a sacred time of rebirth, renewal, transformation, deep cleansing, and new beginnings. Some of these names include Spring Equinox, Ostara, Alban Eilir, Nowruz…
On the Spring Equinox, the day and night are at equal lengths. The spring equinox represents the tipping point of light returning to overtake the darkness. It’s a powerful reminder that no matter what, light will always return to illuminate the path of renewed hope, growth, and transformation. And it heralds in the dawning on life emerging, growing, and thriving.
As the Earth begins to awaken, seeds push up leaves, plants emerge from underground, new life is pushing its green, growing edge — and within this cycle is powerful nurturing energy that is fueling your growth, too.
In other words, the spring equinox is the best time of year to embark on the journey of transformation you’ve been longing for. Now is the perfect time to tap into your inner wisdom, and focus on nurturing your body, mind and soul to release things that no longer serve you so that you can reconnect with the divine energy that flows through you (all of the things I help women around the world do in my Vibrant Healthy Woman™ Program).
The energy of the universe is ready and waiting to support your journey, but before you can start, it’s important to recognize what’s been holding you back from making the lasting changes and progress you’ve been seeking up until now. In my Vibrant Healthy Woman™ Program, we work on 4 of these common and powerful saboteurs.
Reason #1: Your Health and Happiness Are Always on the Back Burner
One of the biggest and most glaring reasons why we aren’t able to make the changes we want — whether it’s losing a few pounds, or just increasing our energy — is simply because we’re not making our health a priority.
As women, we’re expected to put the needs of others ahead of our own. We’re mothers, wives, sisters and daughters first, and many of us have gotten used to placing our needs at the very bottom. Sometimes, it can even feel selfish to want to focus on ourselves when we know others are counting on us.
At the same time, many women feel that they have to put all of their energy into their careers — working long hours, going the extra mile just to prove their competence — all at the expense of their own well-being.
In this cycle, we can get stuck just existing in a constant state of mental and physical exhaustion instead of LIVING as the radiant, energetic beings we truly are. So before you can start creating the changes you want, you have to step back and listen to what your body is telling you and acknowledge the fact that you need to be putting yourself first.
Think of it this way — in an airplane emergency, they tell you to put your own oxygen mask on first before helping others. Apply this same concept to your life; absolutely support others, but nurture yourself first.
Reason #2: The Barrier of the “Bad Body” Mindset
How many times have you seen an impossibly gorgeous woman in the glossy pages of a magazine or scrolling through your feed on Instagram and thought, “Why can’t I look like her?”
As women, we’re constantly bombarded with images that reinforce the concept of the “perfect body,” and we’re conditioned to think that any body that doesn’t fit the mold of this ideal is “bad” or undesirable.
But I’ll let you in on a secret … there is no one perfect body. There never has been.
Throughout history, the standard on what was supposed to be the “ideal” body has changed over and over again. In the 1920s, it was all about embodying a thin, androgynous look — straight lines and loose, shapeless clothing. Just a couple of decades later, in the era of the 1950s pin-up girls, it was ALL about soft, voluptuous curves.
In the 1980s, if a man told a woman she had a big butt, he might have earned a quick slap to the face. But now, girls spend hours in the gym doing hundreds of squats and hip thrusts, all in the effort to get the perfectly plump, rounded bum that only a few short years ago was considered undesirable.
In short, the only perfect body you ever need to think about is the one you already have. And rather than trying to force it to meet some ridiculous, fleeting standard … focus on what’s right for your body to be healthy and happy.
Reason #3: You Want to Redefine Your Relationship with Your Body
Trust me when I say I know EXACTLY how it feels to look in the mirror and wish you could change the reflection…
As a professional dancer, I was constantly exposed to a very limited definition of what a dancer’s body was supposed to be — long and lean with legs for miles. It was everything I felt I wasn’t, and, for a long time, I struggled to reconcile my body image with that unattainable standard.
For years, I struggled with negative body image and confidence, and I tried everything to change what I saw in the mirror — crazy diets, restriction, punishing workout regimes, you name it. But I could never make the progress or changes I wanted.
That’s because all of the effort I was putting in came from a place of criticism, frustration, and even anger. And that’s the way far too many women approach fitness or weight loss — using crazy fad diets, heavy restriction, or extreme exercise regimes (that aren’t sustainable or healthy) as a way of punishing our bodies for not being what we believe they should be.
Instead of letting your inner critic control, choose to listen to what your body is telling you and focus on nurturing it, so you can become the best, healthiest version of you.
Reason #4: You’re Cut Off from Your Inner Wisdom
There is a divine energy that is alive within each of us – a little voice of wisdom that guides you along your path and allows you to step forward as your best, authentic self. But that connection can become blocked by beliefs and limitations that are a product of our individual human experience.
But as energetic beings, our inner spirit longs to open up our connection to Source and invite the nurturing energy to release open wounds and emotional baggage that are keeping us from moving forward.
So wherever you are right now, I want you to just take a second and think about all the things in your own life that limit you or weigh you down, the things that are stealing your joy.
It might be something that happens because of an external source, like stress, worry, or even fear — brought on by the uncertainty of living through a pandemic or by challenging circumstances in your own life. Or it may stem from an internal source of conflict that presents as anxiety, self-doubt, negative body image, self-criticism, or even depression.
Doing daily guided meditation can help you release these internal blocks, gain clarity, rebuild self-confidence and reconnect with your inner wisdom.
