Welcome to the May 2024 TranscenDance™ Tribune
This month we are Blossoming Into our Best Selves! We’re bringing awareness to mental health and how conscious dance is proven to help. We’re also spotlighting facilitator Angela Ming-Bean, and how she went from swearing she would never dance at the age of 7 to vowing never to stop.
You’ll also discover ways to get connected with the TranscenDance™ community with our TranscenDance™ Live Virtual Classes on Saturday, May 11th and Saturday, May 25th (both classes are at 10am Pacific time).
The TranscenDance™ Tribune is dedicated to nurturing our conscious dance community and celebrating the healing power of the mind-body-spirit connection with a new issue every month. Back issues are also available online at https://bti.com/tribune
Born To Dance
Spotlighting Facilitator Angela Ming-Bean
Angela Sharon Ming-Bean’s journey of dance has been filled with soul discovery, even through her life’s ups and downs. Born and raised in Bermuda, Angela inherited her parents’ artistic talent and grew up surrounded by art. However, her fascination with dance came to an abrupt halt when she was just a child. Her mother took her to a ballet class where she was left by herself and severely bullied by other students. Angela vowed to never dance again, and this incident left a deep imprint on her psyche. For years, she was depressed and struggled with finding joy in her life.
It was not until she had her four beautiful daughters that Angela’s passion for dance was reignited. She enrolled them in ballet and African dance classes. In 2001, she joined them in the African dance classes herself and even her husband got in on the action by adding his skills with drumming, making it a great family affair. This marked a turning point in Angela’s life. For the first time in a long time, she discovered who she was meant to be.
She stayed with the Bermuda African Dance Company for 14 years and pursued her interest in bodybuilding, taking dance classes at the Inmotion School of Dance, and attending an intensive dance program with the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company during the summer of 2018. She even took a dance examination under the International Dance Teachers Association in Catford, England, and passed.
Through her passion for dance, Angela became an art teacher, holding dance clubs during lunch breaks at Clearwater Middle School. Her love for dance expanded and she became a Kukuwa African Dance Instructor, an Egyptian Yoga instructor, and a WITS personal fitness trainer. Dance had become a part of her life and she felt as if it had opened her soul.
In 2019, knowing she wanted to retire by the age of 65 and not knowing how to get to do that, Angela found the Brave Thinking Institute with Mary Morrissey. A few years later, she met Jennifer Joy Jimenéz, the head of the Institute’s Health & Wellbeing Division and creator of TranscenDance™. Angela was intrigued by the idea of movement without steps: “I knew it was for me!” She felt welcomed and supported by the TranscenDance™ community, and lit up in her life: “TranscenDance™ is like sunlight brightening the whole world just by one of us, dancing in it,” she said. ”I didn’t consider myself a dancer until I found TranscenDance™”
Angela became a certified TranscenDance™ Facilitator in 2021. She reflects on her training experience with TranscenDance™, her love for her fellow Facilitators, and how their support helped her overcome her fear of online and electronics. She has reconnected with her inner child and now has the confidence she needed to never let her depressed, fearful self take the wheel of her life again. Angela also gets to share TranscenDance™ with the next generation of her family, her precious grandchildren. Amari, in particular, adores dancing with her grandma and has developed a special bond with Jennifer, eagerly anticipating every online class where she can see her. Angela’s ability to share this beautiful experience with her grandkids has brought immense joy and fulfillment to her life. She believes that TranscenDance™ is a daily tool that has helped her feel lighter and more grounded: “It’s like a cleansing after you let it all out,” she said.
Through dance, Angela has not only transformed her own life, but has created a legacy of love, joy, and connection for her loved ones. The power of dance has brought her family closer together and continues to be a source of celebration and growth for them all. Angela continues to stay committed to holding her online TranscenDance™ classes, while also exploring her niche, adding her own uniqueness along the way. Striving to help others feel the freedom, bliss, and self-discovery that this movement modality brings.
When asked what would she tell someone who is questioning if they should try TranscenDance™ or not, she said: “It will greatly uplift you, and it’s fun.”
We celebrate you Angela, and how you have blossomed into the dancer your soul has always known you to be.
We wish you and all the Mothers out there a Happy and Blessed Mother’s Day!

Movement Over Matter
Elevating Mental Health Through Dance
In an enlightening exploration inspired by MindWise Innovations and Amen Clinic, this Mental Health Awareness Month we will not only delve into the profound impact of our food choices on our mental well-being, we will also share the transformative power of conscious dance and its support to mental health
Dancing and Mental Health: A Harmonious Connection
As MindWise Innovations illuminates, dancing isn’t just about rhythm and movement— it’s a therapeutic journey that nurtures our mental health. From weddings to fitness dance classes, dancing elevates our mood and improves heart health, muscle strength, and balance. The research-backed benefits extend across demographics, offering solace to teenagers grappling with depression and anxiety, and empowering seniors to enhance cognitive skills and agility (including with conscious dance modalities such as TranscenDance™) .
Healing Through Connection and Movement
Beyond the physical benefits, dancing fosters social connections that uplift our spirits. As we sway to the rhythm, we form new bonds and rekindle old friendships, enhancing our overall well-being. For those navigating depression, dance can serve as a healing therapy, complementing professional help, and offering a joyful outlet for self-expression.
Toxic Foods: Saboteurs of Mental Well-being
While dancing nourishes the soul, our dietary choices significantly impact our mental health. The Amen Clinics alert us to the detrimental effects of toxic foods lurking in our diets. From sugar and artificial sweeteners to pesticide-laden produce, these culprits can exacerbate depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline. By raising awareness of these hazards, we empower ourselves to make informed dietary decisions that prioritize mental wellness.
Empowering Choices for Mental Wellness
In the pursuit of mental wellness, our dietary choices wield immense power. While toxic foods may lurk in unexpected places, we can harness knowledge to opt for brain-healthy alternatives. By prioritizing wholesome, nourishing foods and mindful eating practices, we pave the way for vibrant mental health and overall well-being.
Blossoms Up
5 Moves To Being Your Best Self
In a world where societal pressures and expectations often weigh heavily upon us, it’s easy to find ourselves trapped in the cycle of self-judgment. It can be all too easy to worry about what others may think, second-guessing our every move, and stifling our true essence. But, what if there was a way to break free from this suffocating pattern and embrace our authenticity with confidence and grace?
Enter TranscenDance™, a transformative practice that not only liberates us from self-judgment but also empowers us to blossom into our best selves. Here are five top ways TranscenDance™ can help you release self-judgment and lean into not caring what others think, all while embracing the journey of self-discovery and growth:
- Move with Abandon: On the dance floor, there are no judgments, no critiques—only freedom. TranscenDance™ invites you to move your body with abandon, allowing your inner self to shine through each graceful motion. As you sway to the rhythm of the music, you’ll discover a newfound sense of liberation, shedding the layers of self-doubt and inhibition that once held you back.
- Embrace Imperfection: In the dance of life, perfection is an illusion. TranscenDance™ teaches us to embrace our imperfections, seeing them not as flaws but as unique facets of our being. As you twirl and spin, you’ll learn to celebrate your quirks and idiosyncrasies, realizing that it’s these very imperfections that make you beautifully, authentically you.
- Cultivate Self-Compassion: Self-judgment often stems from a lack of self-compassion. Through TranscenDance™, we learn to treat ourselves with kindness and understanding, nurturing our inner selves with love and acceptance. With each graceful movement, we offer ourselves the gift of compassion, learning to be gentle with ourselves as we navigate the ups and downs of life.
- Trust Your Intuition: The dance floor is a sacred space where intuition reigns supreme. In the midst of swirling chaos, TranscenDance™ encourages us to trust our inner voice, allowing it to guide us with unwavering certainty. As you tune into your intuition and let it lead the way, you’ll find yourself stepping into your power with newfound confidence and clarity.
- Celebrate Your Uniqueness: Finally, TranscenDance™ invites us to revel in our uniqueness, celebrating the one-of-a-kind masterpiece that is ourselves. As you lose yourself in the music and movement, you’ll come to realize that there is no one else in the world quite like you—and that’s something worth celebrating. With each joyful step, you’ll embrace the fullness of your being, blossoming into your best, most authentic self.
So, if you’re ready to break free from the shackles of self-judgment and embrace the radiant soul that lies within, it’s time to step onto the dance floor with TranscenDance™. Let go of your inhibitions, dance like nobody’s watching, and watch as you blossom into the magnificent masterpiece that you were always meant to be. Here are some options to get started.
