Use this 3-step exercise to cast a powerful vision & accomplish your New Year’s goals
The new year is here! If you’re like most people, you’ve probably already started to consider what goals you want to set in order to manifest your best life in the next year.
But statistics show that 91% of people who set goals for the new year don’t actually achieve them.
There are several key factors that can make your goals more likely to be achieved, manifesting your vision into reality. Those goals are:
- Free of obligation. When you set goals because you think you should, you’re far less likely to follow through. Instead, set goals when you have a distinct sense that you desire different results and are ready for change (source).
- Supported by a big-picture vision and broken down into an inspired action plan. Small steps that allow you to make progress over time keep you inspired and motivated (source).
- Grounded in a practice of gratitude, one of the most important daily habits for a manifestation journey with positive results (source).
- Approach-oriented, rather than avoidance-oriented. In other words, goals are much more likely to be achieved when you focus on what you will do, rather than what you won’t (source).
- Both inspiring and challenging (source).
I want you to be able to count yourself among the people who achieve their goals this year.
I know with clear intentions, a positive mindset, and an unwavering belief in your own potential, you can harness the power of manifestation to create your absolute dream life!
How can you ensure your success and manifest your goals?
Before you do any of the work of setting new goals this year, I want to help you make a few powerful mindset shifts to amplify your manifestation process.
But if you’re in a hurry, click here to jump straight to the goal-setting exercise!
Mindset Shift #1: Start with a BIG vision.
Many people make the mistake of focusing on the little things they can or should do right now, before they figure out where they want to end up.
Before you decide which goals you want to achieve, how you plan to do it, or even what manifestation technique you’re going to use, start with your vision first.
A clear picture of where you’re headed not only keeps you motivated to keep pursuing your goal, but it also helps you make decisions along the way.
Remember– people who create clear visions that both inspire and challenge them are more likely to achieve their goals. Your vision should feel like a stretch. It should push you out of your comfort zone. Don’t limit yourself to what seems possible from where you’re standing now. Instead, focus on what you would love!

Mindset Shift #2: S.M.A.R.T. Goals are for you, not the Universe
Once your big vision is in place, you can create specific short term goals to move you in the direction of success as you bring that vision to life.
Smaller, specific goals are a great way to stay motivated on the path to accomplishing your dreams because they create wins along the way! These on-the-way wins are your scaffolding images – the moments of success that help you build and support your big vision.
Like building a skyscraper, the scaffolding supports the progress to the final structure, one floor at a time.
As you set out to determine your scaffolding images and the goals you need to accomplish in order to bring your vision into reality, consider the S.M.A.R.T. goal method. S.M.A.R.T. goals are: specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely.
You may have heard of S.M.A.R.T. goals before, but in case you haven’t:
- Specific goals make it clear what exactly you’re trying to accomplish and why.
- Measurable goals make it clear how you’ll know you’ve been successful.
- Achievable goals ensure that your goal both challenges and stretches you, and is also likely to contribute to the ongoing success that will keep you motivated.
- Realistic goals honor, but are not limited by, your current reality, resources, and commitment level.
- Timely goals have a clear deadline for when the goal will have been accomplished or for when progress will be made.
But here’s the most important part of setting goals like this that most people fail to realize: S.M.A.R.T. goals are for you, not the Universe.
This type of goal setting is based on research-backed methods to work with our human brains and generate positive outcomes. And, using these basic principles is a good way to ensure we’re more likely to build scaffolding images and experience success on the path to accomplishing a bigger vision.
But, while great for the human brain, the Universe is not limited by or motivated by these types of logic-bound measurements. In order to achieve your big vision, I encourage you to use motivating tools like setting S.M.A.R.T. goals…
…and to remember that you are supported by a limitless Universe that often defies the logic we may think we are currently limited to.
For example, I believe that a time-bound goal is a powerful tool that can help you stay focused and motivated. Setting a by-when for the things you need to accomplish is an important way to hold yourself accountable and stay committed to your vision.
At the same time, what if you could set a timeframe in which you would love for that goal to be accomplished and hold for something greater still?
Likewise, your current measurements of success might seem like they would be amazing accomplishments from where you’re standing. And you can know that there are no limits to the success you can experience, even as you make progress on your goals.
Your reality can change faster and in more ways than you ever thought possible.
You may set S.M.A.R.T. goals that make sense to you now and then be absolutely blown away by the speed at which the Universe responds to your deepest desires!
Mindset Shift #3: Success with the Law of Attraction requires action.
Many people make the mistake of thinking the Law of Attraction works just by focusing on positive thinking and positive energy.
But the truth is, manifesting requires action.
Your commitment to taking inspired action in the direction of your dreams is a vital part of how the Law of Attraction and manifesting work.
To better understand action and the Law of Attraction, imagine manifestation works less like a magic wand and more like the electricity that powers your home.
Electricity gives you the amazing ability to power nearly anything you desire– computers, smart phones, lights, appliances…
Trying to use the Law of Attraction with wishful thinking and positive thoughts alone is like getting a lamp, setting it in the middle of the room, and working really hard to imagine it giving off light…
Without ever plugging it in and turning it on.
See, before you brought the lamp home, you chose it, fully believing that it would be able to fulfill your needs.
Since you know that the electricity in your home works, you’re able to visualize what it would look like to have the lamp lighting your space.
But, no matter how much belief you have in the lamp to work, and no matter how diligently you visualize it working, that lamp will never actually give off any light if you don’t take the action of plugging it in and turning it on!
As powerful as electricity is, it still requires our action to create the results we want from it.
Much in the same way, the Law of Attraction requires your belief, is amplified by your thoughts and focus… and in order to truly experience its power, you have to take action.
Mindset Shift #4: Manifestation is not something you achieve.
I believe your big vision is meant for you. The best version of yourself living a life you love is absolutely yours to experience.
But manifesting isn’t a thing you achieve.
Manifesting is a practice.
Your manifesting journey is one you will walk every single day.
As you move through your daily life, you are always interfacing with all the laws of the Universe. The Universe is always responding to your beliefs, thoughts, and actions.
Your results are feedback about your alignment with those laws — whether positive feedback or negative.
You are always manifesting results.
The good news is, you have the power to change the results you’ve experienced up until this point!
Even simple steps to create a more positive mindset, address your limiting paradigms, or take action can drastically change your reality!
New Year Goals Template & Big Vision Exercise
Use this goal setting exercise to create goals for the new year and manifest a new reality.
This template for setting goals will leave you with so much more than a list of things you hope to accomplish (the list that’s very likely to be forgotten in a few months). This 3-part process will leave you inspired and excited, ready to take on the new year with inspired, brave action!
1. Create Your Big Vision.
Start by setting aside time to imagine your life 10 years from now. If you manifested your most ideal life, what would you love it to look like? Challenge yourself to be as specific as possible and create a vision for your life in great detail.
Your big vision should stretch and challenge what you think is possible. Don’t limit yourself to what you think you can have or what seems probable or logical now. Instead, focus on what you would truly love.
You can start by asking yourself the following questions about your big vision:
- What does your everyday life entail? How do you spend your time?
- Where do you live? What kind of home do you have?
- How do you make a living? Do you have a new, successful career? A wildly successful business?
- How is your experience of vibrant health? What does it feel like to be in your body? What can you do as a result?
- What important relationships are a part of your life? What do they feel like? How do they support the best version of yourself?
- What hobbies and passions do you pursue? How do you make a meaningful impact in the world?
2. Identify Your Scaffolding Images.
Your 10 year vision doesn’t have to take 10 years to fulfill! With the support of the Universe, your goals and timelines change much faster than you originally believed they ever could.
For now, consider the specific moments of success – the scaffolding images – you would love to achieve this year. Be as specific as possible!
For example, if you are holding a big vision to create a successful life coaching business, you might ask yourself:
- How many views or followers will you have on social media this year? On which platforms?
- How many students or clients will you work with this year?
- How many events, classes, or workshops will you run? How many attendees will you have?
- How much revenue will your business generate this year?
- What philanthropic gifts will you give this year? To what organizations and how much will you donate?
Use the answers to these questions to set specific S.M.A.R.T. goals based on the inspired action you are committing to take in 2023.
Remember, your specific goals support your scaffolding images. Your scaffolding images support bringing your big vision into reality.
3. News Flash! Write Your “Big Vision Press Release.”
As a fun way to shift into a higher vibration and to inspire the action you’re going to take this coming year, write a press release celebrating your impending success.
Think of this as a written illustration of a vision board. Be specific and focus on a celebratory tone. Amplify the positive feelings you will have when you’re living this press release in the future.
Start with an exciting headline. Follow it with a description of the specific things you will have created and accomplished when your big vision comes to fruition.
For example, the big vision headline at Brave Thinking Institute might read: To celebrate 1 billion dreams achieved, the Brave Thinking Institute has donated $100,000 to support the dreams of 100 incredible entrepreneurs!
Have fun with this! You’re creating a powerful resource to guide your actions, decisions, and focus for the next year. There is so much power in aligning with the vision you’re holding of a life you would love.
I believe in you.
Even if you’re struggling to believe in yourself, I want to invite you to believe in my belief in you.
You can…
- Change your entire reality this year
- Achieve astounding results when you commit to thinking bravely and acting boldly
- Accomplish greatly– more than you ever thought possible!
If you’ve struggled to manifest your dreams in the past, you aren’t alone.
Your future is not limited by your past, or even present, reality. But, many people hinder their own results without even realizing it– keeping them from successfully manifesting their dreams into reality.
The secret most people miss lies in a clear vision of what you’re creating, taking inspired action, and stepping into the version of themselves who already has everything you desire.
When you are anchored in the vibration of your next-level success, you can accelerate your manifestations and accomplish more than you ever thought possible!
I’ve created a powerful resource to help you take your vision and goals to the next level. It will help you send a powerful signal to the Universe and quantum leap to a new, expanded reality!
