A Quick Message from Rich Boggs on Winning Golden Globe Awards, Going After Your Dreams and Becoming Unstoppable
In March of 2018, I had the honor of attending the 10th annual Unstoppable Foundation Gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
The Unstoppable Foundation is our charity of choice at Brave Thinking Institute, and I’m proud to say we raised over $250,000 that night!
It was truly an extraordinary evening. What was also extraordinary was an opportunity that came to me while I was at the hotel the next morning.
One incredible tool of transformation that Mary teaches is to imagine that you’re living your dream every chance you get as a way of keeping the dream alive.
You may know that the Beverly Hilton Hotel is where the Golden Globes are filmed.
As an actor who worked in L.A. for 12 years, one of my dreams has always been to win a Golden Globe Award.
So I thought I would sneak into the Beverly Hilton International Ballroom, stand on stage and imagine myself winning a Golden Globe.
As I was sneaking into the ballroom, I realized I could have easily gotten kicked out, but it was worth it to me.
Since I had stopped acting, I had chosen to raise a family and start some other businesses, and my dream had been put on the shelf.
Standing on stage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel where the Golden Globes were filmed was my chance to dust off that dream.
As I stood on that stage, I imagined myself accepting two Golden Globes: one for Best Dramatic Series and one for Best Actor in a Dramatic Series.
The seats in front of me were full of television and film professionals and the Hollywood Foreign Press.
I imagined that I was wearing a tuxedo and holding a Golden Globe. I thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press, my fellow nominees and of course, my mom, for paying for my first tap dancing lesson and for teaching me to go for my dreams.
You were born to dream big, too
As my mom, Mary Morrissey, says, there’s a power inside of you that knows you are destined for MORE and knows how to create a life you truly love living.
The first step to dusting off those dreams is to have a clear and specific vision of what you’d love.
If you can act it out, similar to how I did on stage at the Beverly Hilton, great! If not, don’t be deterred.
You see, in the absence of a specific vision, it doesn’t matter how much power you have within you, because you don’t know where to direct it.
How can you know the directions to get somewhere if you don’t know where the destination is?
If you can’t create a physical representation of your dream, like I did, then here’s a great exercise you can do:
Think about the different areas of your life and start to bring into focus any dreams you have in each area.
- What are your dreams for your health and well-being?
- What would you love to do and give if you had more time and money freedom?
- What are your dreams for your relationships with other people?
- What do you dream about in the area of career or business?
The key here is shifting perspectives from one of a general longing for things to be a different way, to a specific vision of what you would love.
Instead of saying, “I want to be healthy,” create a picture of what being healthy looks like for you.
Are you running a marathon?
Growing and eating your own vegetables?
See yourself full of energy and glowing with vitality and you’ll be on your way to incredible results!
The truth is, you’re going to have results in all areas of your life just by living and breathing, but you can use the power within you to generate the results you desire by creating a vision of your dream life.
Is there a dream in YOUR life that needs some dusting off?
So… I’m curious. What’s YOUR dream, passion or purpose?
Are you building on your dream? What are you teaching those around you by living the life that you’re living?
My message to you today is to GO AFTER your dream.
