Morning Routines of Successful People: Blueprint for Success
We’re all working with the same 24 hours each day…
So how do the most successful people accomplish so much?
Sure, you might think it’s only that they have different levels of support and resources at their disposal…
But the truth is, they use specific strategies to build greater and greater levels of success each passing day.
And one of the simplest secrets you can steal from the world’s most successful people is a good morning routine.
In this post, I’m going to share my personal morning ritual that many highly successful people also use. I’ve been practicing and teaching this routine for a long time with powerful results… and you can do the same!
Proven Benefits of an Intentional Morning Routine
Most of us roll out of bed every morning and begin our day on autopilot.
But, if you ask any highly successful person how they start their day, they’ll likely tell you that they have a specific morning routine.
They know that how they begin each day sets the tone for how the remaining hours unfold. What happens after the alarm clock goes off will impact the results they’re able to achieve before they go to bed again that night.
In fact, following a morning routine can improve your physical and mental well-being. Here are ten proven, key benefits:
- Productivity: Starting your day with a routine can increase productivity. By establishing a clear plan for the day ahead, you reduce decision fatigue and procrastination.
- Mental Health: Consistent morning routines can reduce stress and anxiety by providing a sense of control, purpose, and predictability.
- Focus and Concentration: A structured morning can improve focus and concentration by starting the day in a calm, organized manner.
- Self-Control: Adhering to a morning routine requires discipline, which can spill over into other areas of life, improving overall self-control and willpower.
- Time Management: A routine helps you make decisions more effectively, prioritize tasks, and use your time more efficiently.
- Energy Levels: Activities like exercise, eating breakfast, and setting clear goals can boost your energy levels for the day.
- Personal Growth: Consistently following a morning routine creates space for reading, meditation, or learning new skills– all activities that can help you grow personally and professionally.
It’s clear that morning routines work, but you might not be sure how to create your own perfect morning routine. Keep reading for a behind-the-scenes look into my own morning routine…

My Personal Morning Routine: Key Steps for a Productive Morning & a Successful Day
The best morning routine will be the one that you can commit to. But, I’ve found that these key steps are essential to creating a successful day!
STEP ONE: Generate a State of Gratitude
My morning routine actually begins before I even set foot out of bed.
Before I even open my eyes, as I become aware and conscious, I take a deep breath. While still in bed, I generate a state of gratitude for the brand new, baby day.
Each day is the ULTIMATE GIFT. Afterall, not everyone wakes up each morning!
So when I am one of those who do, I choose to recognize the gift that I have been given.
What lies in front of me from that moment forward is UNLIMITED POTENTIAL. I have the ability to co-create what I will do with this amazing day… And so do you!
You can make your day whatever you desire, starting with this intentional moment.
STEP TWO: Dreams & Goals
After those first moments of gratitude, I get moving. I get ready for my day in the usual ways– getting dressed, grabbing coffee, and having breakfast. And in that process, I do a simple, 3-part meditation and journaling process.
1. First, I magnify the gratitude that I’ve already begun generating by listing 5 things I’m grateful for.
The KEY to this is to write each gratitude one at a time and stop to FEEL IT.
It isn’t about going through the motions and jotting down a few things out of rote habit. Fight the temptation to check it off a list so you can move onto the next thing as quickly as possible.
Instead, focus on truly amplifying and generating a state of gratitude…
And remember, the frequency of gratitude is harmonious with abundance!
2. Next, I connect to my DREAM by writing a daily dream statement.
A dream statement answers the question: “What part of the big vision for my life do I want to work on today?”.
Begin your dream statement with the phrase, “I am so happy and grateful now that…”, and write as if you’ve ALREADY achieved your dream. This way, it acts as a present-tense positive affirmation.
For example, last year, my major dominant burning desire was to improve my physical health.
So my dream statement could have been something like: “I’m so happy and grateful now that I am vibrantly healthy and physically fit.”
3. Next, I identify a goal that is aligned with my dream statement.
Phrase your goal statement like, “I want to go from [this result] to [this result] by [this date].”
My goal statement could have been: “I want to go from being able to run for 5 minutes to running for 30 minutes with ease by June 1st.”
Remember to choose only one goal! Research clearly shows that people who set 1-2 goals tend to achieve them, while people who set 3-7 goals usually only achieve one!
STEP THREE: Being vs. Doing
After I’ve tapped into my dream and focused on a goal, I ask, “Who am I being today that aligns with my dream and goal?”
Notice that we begin by identifying WHO we need to be before listing WHAT we need to accomplish.
Being comes first.
The truth is most people have this backwards.
They believe that once they have, then they will do, and then they will be happy.
But that’s not the way it works. The order is: be, do, have.
That’s why this step is so important.
To help you answer this powerful “being” question, consider the following:
- What qualities, beliefs, and values does the version of you already experiencing your dream have?
- What does your intuition say will be in the highest service of and alignment with your dream?
Finally, I list 1-3 of the most important tasks I need to accomplish to move the needle on my goal and ultimately, my dream.
These action items are in service of my dream and goal, and I’m choosing to give them my full attention and presence that day.
Of course, I will also do other things during the day. But, I do so knowing what things need to be done with the highest quality and priority.
This 3-part process only takes about 5 minutes once you get into the flow. Just 5 minutes and you’ve set your entire day up for success!

Common Morning Routine Mistakes
The value of this morning routine lies in the PROCESS. Doing it over and over will rewire your brain to prioritize the thoughts, feelings, and action aligned with the results you want.
But here’s where people often get stuck when implementing a new morning routine:
1. They make their morning routine too long and too complicated.
A successful morning routine should be easy to execute. Don’t underestimate the power of a cumulative, repetitive habit! Each time you do it, it builds on the times before.
TOGETHER, this series of small moments can change the entire trajectory of your life for the better!
2. They don’t take the time to FEEL it.
Repetition can easily become rote. Be mindful of including the emotional state when you do this morning routine. For it to be truly impactful, you have to FEEL it.
3. They don’t make their morning routine a priority.
Be mindful not to fall into the trap of doing other things before getting around to your morning routine.
It might seem like a cup of coffee before you generate gratitude, or a few minutes on social media before you journal won’t matter…
But the truth is, how you do anything is a reflection of how you do everything, including your morning routine. If you don’t make it a priority or take it seriously, you’re less likely to make your goals and dreams a priority either.
